The year 2014 seems to be good for the Indian Fashion Fraternity. In February 2014, Indian designer Rahul Mishra grabbed the attention of the international fashion gurus by winning the International Woolmark Prize and now the unheard of sisters from Mumbai – Tina and Nikita Sutradhar are making us proud by being shortlisted among the 12 finalists for the debut LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers competition. The winner gets an award of €300,000, with mentorship by the LVMH honchos.
Fashionscandal was the first Indian news medium to write about the ambitious project of Louis Vuitton’s executive vice president Delphine Arnault in November 2013. Here is the link to that post:
Nikita (22) and Tina (24) Sutradhar are sisters. Tina studied business and fashion marketing while Nikita gained knowledge in fashion design and its technical aspects before coming to London to study Fashion Design at London College of Fashion together in 2010. Their label – Miuniku aspires to be a ready to wear, luxury clothing and accessories brand for women. The brand name comes from the nick names of the two designers. Miu-Tina and Niku-Nikita. Tina and Nikita earned other accolades too, like being the Semi – Finalists at H&M Design Awards 2014 and Winner of Denim Diffusion – Translation from luxury to ready to wear, project with leading denim manufactures ISKO™.
The dozen men’s and womenswear designers, who hail from round the globe, will each have fifteen minutes to present their Fall ’14 collections at the LVMH headquarters in May. Judges including Karl Lagerfeld, Raf Simons, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, Riccardo Tisci, and others will consider their efforts, and later choose a winner. “All the [LVMH Prize] designers are really enthusiastic,” said Delphine Arnault. “I’m sure the contestants are nervous, but at the same time, it’s an amazing opportunity to meet all these people.”
All the best to you two – Tina and Nikita. Just do it!
