Help us with your opinion and information of these Spoilt Brats who are the epitome of so-called ‘Losers’! They who have achieved nothing and done nothing but throw money, womanise, do drugs and pick fights just because their Mummy-Daddy are rich or in places of power.
Gaga has never shied away from controversy and she’s bound to drum some up with her new cover of Candy magazine. She joins a long list of celebrities who have graced the cover. Candy celebrates transvestism, transexuality, crossdressing and androgyny in all their glory.
Lady Gaga chooses to showcase her full body, including everything down south, in a black and white photo shoot. She puts on a dramatic scorpion nipple pasty and dons a Dali-like painted moustache too. It’s a bold choice for the singer and the magazine indeed. But bold is what gets you attention.
But now, some photos from the 18-page spread has surfaced thanks to Mert Alas, one half of the photography duo Mert & Marcus, who shot Kate Moss for the magazine. Mert posted the image of Kate on Instagram with the message, “Now celebrating our first Playboy with Kitty @home. Love u bad girl.” The supermodel appears kneeling on the floor sporting a pair of Playboy’s notorious bunny ears, a tail, and cuffs. Her iconic signature spelling out the phrase “Love, Kate” is prominently scribbled across the portrait.
Here are those leaked pictures that will appear in the January/February 2014 issue of Playboy. Enjoy!!!
We were proud of DLF Emporio as a real ‘Luxury Mall’. The luxury mall in Mumbai, the Palladium was not even a shade of DLF Emporio and in no way was a ‘Luxury Mall’. But last Saturday when I visited the DLF Emporio, I was appalled to see racks of clothes hanging at the atrium of the prestigious mall.
Etro was holding a sale at the atrium of DLF Emporio and was manned by shabbily dressed people. It was blot on the image of Emporio. The premium rentals the tenants of DLF Emporio pay is for the luxuriant ambiance Emporio had. Rack of clothes on sale with tacky signage displayed all over made the DLF Emporio give a feel of ‘Haat’.
Revenue is important for everybody but when a mall is projected as the most luxurious mall of India, it has to follow a system that doesn’t erode the image. Earlier I have seen luxury cars on display at the atrium but a sale of clothes at the atrium has definitely eroded the image of DLF Emporio. I sincerely hope that the DLF Management – Ms. Pia Singh and Ms. Savitri Singh take note of this matter.
I knew Aparna Chandra as a designer. She eventually made her mark as a stylist and today is one of the most sought after stylist in the industry. Aparna Chandra loving known as Apu to her loved ones is definitely one of the prettiest girl in the fash frat and you will always see her smiling.
Aparna Chandra found her prince-charming in Karan Aneja and the lovely couple tied the nuptial knot and celebrated the union over a chilled-out ceremony. The bride – Aparna looked gorgeous in a Manish Arora lehenga. Her hairdo was very avant-garde – a bunch of red and yellow flowers. The groom – Karan stuck to minimal chic and donned a blue churidaar kurta.
Congratulation Aparna Chandra and Karan Aneja. Wish your life together is full of bliss and happiness!
There is no need for politicians to politicise Tarun Tejpal’s attempt to rape his former woman employee. If Sushma Swaraj made noise in her Tweet about a Cabinet Minister’s involvement with Tehelka, it’s but obvious that she was mentioning about Kapil Sibal. But then Sushma Swaraj conveniently ignores the fact that a former BJP Member who too was a minister in the NDA government has a higher shareholding in Tehelka.
Here is the list of shareholders of Tehelka as on September 2011. See serial number 12 and 13. If Kapil Sibal held 0.08% Stake in Tehelka, Ram Jethmalani held 0.17% stake. So let us not politicise the issue and eventually dilute the real issue and let the alleged rapist – Tarun Tejpal have the last laugh.
Next came another BJP loud-mouth – Subramaniam Swami. He flaunted his resources about digging out a letter that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote to Sonia Gandhi in 2004. Here is that letter. Read it and draw your conclusion.
Here is the full text of the letter of resignation letter by the woman journalist, who had accused Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal of rape, addressed to the magazine’s managing editor, Shoma Chaudhury. Along with the victim, three more staffers of Tehelka put in their resignation letter. In her resignation letter, the victim also accuses Shoma Chaudhury, Tehelka’s managing editor for her cover-up act and indulging in her character assasination.
This is the verbatim of Tejpal’s rape victim’s resignation letter:
I am resigning from my position as ****** at Tehelka magazine, with immediate effect, because Tehelka’s Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal sexually molested me on two occasions in November this year.
I am deeply traumatised by the lack of support offered by the organisation.
In such circumstances, it is untenable for me to continue to work for this organisation.
At this moment, I would like to present the following facts to support my claim:
1. I was sexually molested by Tarun Tejpal on two occasions, the 7th and 8th of November 2013 at the annual Think festival in Goa this year. In the emails of apology that followed my complaint to you about Mr Tejpal’s grievous sexual misconduct, he admitted to the fact, and apologised unconditionally.
2. I requested, at the very least, for Mr Tejpal to acknowledge this apology publicly to the staff and bureau of Tehelka. While I did not want this acknowledgement to have graphic details, I asked that the words “sexual misconduct” be included. In a phone conversation with me, you asked that he be recused from doing so because he had already admitted to sexual molestation in his emails, and because we needed to “protect the institution”. In this conversation, I said, “I trust you to do the right thing”.
3. In the public acknowledgement sent to the bureau, Mr Tejpal and you referred to his act of sexual violation as “an untoward incident”— this was not an attempt to “protect the institution” but in fact, an attempt to cover up what had really occurred—the act of sexual molestation, an admission of the facts that Mr Tejpal had “attempted sexual liaison” with me (to quote his email) on two occasions despite my “reluctance to receive such attention”. Further, in conversations with my colleagues, you admitted to them that you did not see the need to set up an anti-sexual harassment cell as per the Vishaka guidelines, because you did not contest my version of what had occurred on the nights of 7th and 8th of November.
4. In your appearances on national news channels, you first attempted to establish that I was “satisfied” with Tehelka’s actions, when only one of my immediate demands from the organisation had been met—namely, that Mr Tejpal had unconditionally apologised for sexually molesting me in private emails to you and I. His public acknowledgement of the apology did not include any reference to his grievous sexual misconduct, and you had still failed to set up an anti-sexual harassment cell as per Vishaka guidelines. This could, in no way, have left me “satisfied”. Further, I had responded to both of Mr Tejpal’s emails (cc’d to you and the three colleagues I had confided everything to since the 7th of November) clarifying:
that his behaviour could not be described as “sexual liaison”, and that was in fact an act of sexual molestation and a violation of bodily integrity and trust, since it occurred (by his own admission) despite my refusal.
A sexual act carried out without consent cannot be justified on any basis.
That after Mr Tejpal (by his own admission) had referred to his position of power over me in the organisation, he did not withdraw this statement as his emails allege.
You continued to ignore my rebuttals to these emails, while insisting, in public, that I was satisfied.
5. You are now attempting to establish that Mr Tejpal has “another version” of events (as surely, any sexual predator does), and that the “encounter” may have been consensual or non-consensual. Meanwhile, on the night of the 22nd of November, an immediate member of Mr Tejpal’s family went to my mother’s house to ask her the details of my legal counsel, and what I “wanted” as a result of my complaint about being sexually molested by Mr Tejpal. In emails and text messages sent to his friends, read out on national news channels, Mr Tejpal is now claiming that what occurred was a “fleeting, consensual encounter”; and that he wrote his apologies to me because of your “adamantine feminist principles”.
Over the past years, we have collectively defended the rights of women, written about custodial rape, sexual molestation at the workplace, spoken out harshly against the culture of victim blame and the tactical emotional intimidation and character assassination of those who dare to speak out against sexual violence.
At a time when I find myself victim to such a crime, I am shattered to find the Editor in Chief of Tehelka, and you— in your capacity as Managing Editor— resorting to precisely these tactics of intimidation, character assassination and slander.
Given the sequence of events since the 7th of November, it is not just Mr Tejpal who has failed me as an employer—but Tehelka that has failed women, employees, journalists and feminists collectively.
Please consider my resignation effective immediately.
LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton is launching an international contest for young designers with some of the industry’s biggest creative names — including Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquière, Raf Simons, Phoebe Philo and Riccardo Tisci — choosing the winner. Brainchild of Bernard Arnault’sdaughter, Delphine Arnault, LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize comes

The competition is open to any designer between the ages of 18 and 40 who has presented and sold at least two collections of women’s or men’s ready-to-wear.Online Applications are on at lvmhprize.com, and close Feb. 2, 2014.
So all you talented young designers, just go for it!
Here is the verbatim of the email sent by the Tehelka employee who was sexually assaulted by Tarun Tejpal of Tehelka to the publication’s Managing Editor – Shoma Chaudhury. The email vividly states the extent of sexual assault the girl went through and I am sure you will get lumps in your throat after reading it. Tejpal should be arrested.
Victims’s email to Shoma Chaudhury:
It is extremely painful for me to write this email to you – I have struggled with finding an easier way to say it, but there isn’t one. The editor in chief of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal, sexually assaulted me at Think on two occasions last week.
From the very first moment, I wanted to call you, or find you and tell you what he had done to me – but given how absorbed you were at Think; preparing for and conducting sessions, and the fact that it was impossible for the two of us to get even a minute alone together, I could not. To add to this, I had to process the fact that it was Tarun who molested me — my father’s ex colleague and friend, Tiya’s dad, and someone I had so deeply respected and admired for so many years.
Both times, I returned to my room in a completely distraught condition, trembling and crying. I went straight to Shougat and Ishan’s room, where I called G Vishnu and told them what had been done to me. (All three of them are copied on this email.
You can contact them for any clarifications you see necessary). The second time he molested me, I even told Tiya what happened. When he heard I’d told Tiya (she confronted him), he lashed out at me, and I became truly terrified of what he would do. I avoided him in all situations except in rooms full of people, until I checked out of Think on Sunday.
As of Saturday evening, he sent me text messages insinuating that I misconstrued “a drunken banter”. That is not what happened. Banter does not involve forcing yourself on someone, trying to disrobe them, and penetrate them with your fingers despite them pleading for you to stop.
As you read through the details of what happened in the attachment to this mail, I hope you will also understand how traumatic and terrifying it has been for me to report this to you — and yet how critical it is that Tehelka constitute an anti sexual harassment cell as per the Vishakha guidelines immediately, to investigate this matter.
At the very least, I will need a written apology from Mr Tejpal and an acknowledgement of the same to be circulated through the organization. It cannot be considered acceptable for him to treat a female employee in this way.
How convenient it is for Tarun Tejpal, the Editor-in-Chief cum Managing Editor of Tehelka to resign for six months after self-introspecting the lurid act of sexually assaulting his female colleague. I have never heard of time-bound resignation. What the hell is a resignation for 6-months??? Guess it is a smart move on Tarun Tejpal’s part to let the matter simmer off. Will his lady colleague feel safe to work under him after 6-months? I doubt.
Tehelka’s Tarun Tejapal sexually assaulted a fellow colleague over two days during their annual Thinkfest in Goa. Was it too much fenny or the Goa air that fuelled Tejpal’s unbridled libido is anybody’s guess. Once the victimised lady colleague of Tarun Tejapal complained, he went into self introspection and decided to resign for six months.
Tehelka started as a holier than thou publication but over the years it is become more infamous for agenda-driven and paid journalism. In fact the promoter of Tehelka – Shankar Sharma of First Global thrives on it. The Aircel-Maxis story that Tehelka carried in their June 2011 issue was paid for by the most sinister of all NRI businessmen - C Sivasankaran. Siva paid crores and crores to Tehelka to carry the story and post this Dayanidhi Maran had to resign from the cabinet of UPA-2 Government.
Let’s see how Tarun Tejpal spends his 6-month holiday post this sex scam.
This CCTV footage of a most heinous attack on Jyothi at Corporation Bank’s ATM sends a chill down your spine. You can see the entire incident here: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i_UMh5lT2gc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Di_UMh5lT2gc
At 7am on 19th November Jyothi walks into Corporation Bank’s ATM, which is 50 feet away from a police station. Jyothi incidentally works with Corporation Bank and she wanted to withdraw cash for her daughter’s birthday. Moments later a man enters the ATM booth and pulls down the shutter. He threatens Jyothi with a gun and later strikes her on the head with a machete. The man without even batting his eyelid, wipes the blood off the machete and his trousers and walks off. It is almost 48 hours and that dangerous criminal hasn’t been grabbed yet by Bengaluru police.
State government is passing the buck onto the bank who are suppose to man the ATM booths with security man and the bank has no answers. There are 600 ATMs in the country with no security gurads. What has this country come to??? Please folks if you see this man who has almost paralysed Jyothi with his machete blow, call the cops.
The Victoria’s Secret 2013 Collection was showcased at New York on November 13th but what is more amusing to know than the sexy stringy underwear was the fact that the lingerie brand used two ensembles from British designer - Antonio Berardi’s collections. Nothing is confirmed or commented upon by Berardi or VS Team but the images definitely shows that Victoria’s Secret did goof-up.
Two Antonio Berardi-esque pieces were spotted on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway; they are not copies but real Berardi designs, mixed in with Victoria’s Secret lingerie. The sheer paneled black minidress, modeled by Cara Delevingne, is identical to one which appeared on the British fashion designer’s Spring 2010 runway show. And the bedazzled oxblood leggings below, worn at the taping by Devon Windsor, belong to Berardi’s Spring 2012 collection.
The likelihood of Victoria’s Secret using Antonio Berardi’s pieces in their show become strong because Victoria’s Secret’s longtime runway stylist, Sophia Neophitou, has also been consulting on the Antonio Berardi label for years
Lady Gaga is constantly trying to shock. If she had enough of weird fashion like the infamous ‘Meat Dress’, she found the easiest way to grab eyeballs and what else could it be but to bare it all. Pop-sculpture artist Jeff Koons shot Lady Gaga, which I think is for her album – PopArt – that released on Wednesday. Lady Gaga being nekkid with a giant blue glass ball is art? I doubt!
I can’t say I entirely understand the symbolism in these photos. I suppose it mostly has to do with shocking people and selling albums. There’s really no denying that Lady Gaga keeps herself in pretty fine shape. If you are a Lady Gaga fan, ENJOY the images!
Stylist cum fashion entrepreneur – Pernia Qureshi created a lot of flutter in the social circuits of Delhi and Mumbai when she was detained by the Custom Officials at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi for smuggling in 16 luxury handbags without declaring them and paying custom duty on those bags valued at Rupees Thirty Five Lacs. Pernia is a well-traveled lady and I am sure she knows the law of the land. Not to declare 16 luxury handbags to the customs is not only illegal but out-rightly foolish on her part. Guess she has picked up the notorious habit of the Tinsel Town ladies even before her movie has gone on the floor.
Yes Pernia Qureshi is trying her luck in the movies now. Not a big deal if one has a super-rich daddy! Pernia will make her acting debut in a movie directed by Muzaffar Ali and produced and financed by daddy dearest – Moin Qureshi. Muzaffar Ali who had lately concentrated on his career as a designer is going to direct a movie after decades so we got to wait and watch what he comes out with. Nothing much is known about the planned film starring Pernia Qureshi but we will keep our eyes and ears open to fill-you-up on it.
When fashionscandal.com posted as early as on the 4th of October, 2013 that L-Capital that has 40% stake in Genesis Luxury is planning to exit, the news was vehemently denied by Genesis Luxury. You can read the post here: http://www.fashionscandal.com/?p=15030
Now the story on L-Capital snapping ties with Genesis Luxury proves itself as news of Genesis and Sahara Group’s talk last week floated in. Sahara Group wants to foray into Luxury Business and has had talks with Genesis Luxury, which valued its business at Rs. 400 crores. The second factor that proves the strained ties between Genesis Luxury and L-Capital is the fact that LVMH has moved the Sephora business to DLF Retail from Genesis Luxury.
But I only wish that the Genesis tying-up with Sahara Group is a wise decision on Sanjay Kapoor’s part. Sahara Group has lots of skeletons in their closet and their business dealings are rarely professional. There are rumours that Subrata Roy and his family will settle abroad and run their empire from outside India. Yes Sahara Group is in an investing spree. They are getting into Defence business with Pipavav, looking to foray into Casino business and Cruise Liners based out of Macedonia and yes, Luxury Retail too is in the plans.
During the WIFW Spring-Summer 2014 Manish Arora and Bharat Sikka had a special screening of their movie – Holy Holi. The 5 minute film conceptualised by Manish Arora and directed by Bharat Sikka won ‘The Best Soundtrack’ and ‘The Best Emerging Talent’ at the 6th A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF 6) festival held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
The film – Holy Holi featured Bishi Bhattacharya, a songstress based in London. Bishi’s soundtrack - Dia Ti Maria won the ‘Best Soundtrack’ for the Arora-Sikka film. Must say it’s quiet an achievement for debutant film-makers! You can see the film here: http://youtu.be/e6NaOCCqgz8
Holy Holi celebrates the widows of Varanasi who broke the centuries old tradition by playing Holi this year. As the scene opens, we’re enveloped instantly by something that’s lonely and has been left to wither away and decay. Forlorn and alone, we see Bishi’s back turned to the camera as she walks down an inner lane of a village inviting dusk. She joins a congregation of young and old widows in a prayer room, all dressed in white saris and at different points of degeneration. They look dusty like old objects. There is a transition and an explosion of color with a celebration in the streets of a small village where there’s confusion as well as excitement among its dwellers in the novelty of the few 50 widows that reluctantly and joyously (secretly) mingle around and amongst the village people. With smiles that they’ve finally broken into, covered in Holi color and Manish Arora’s vivid clothes. We now understand that the forgotten women are part of the community again. But only for a short while. Bishi is then captured and sits in a small boat in a lake, rowed by a single small man, half her size. He cannot fathom why she sings an inaudible melody. She is dark, strong, and her eyes along with her voice are like two in a band show after a long journey.
A photograph of Bigg Boss7 inmates, Armaan Kohli and Tanisha Mukherjea stealing a smooch in Bigg Boss’ house has gone viral. The photograph is a grab from one of the 84 cameras that keeps a watch inside the house and is definitely post light-out as it is a infra-red camera grab.
A dear reader of fashionscandal mailed me this image and enquired if the photo was real. There are many software available on the internet that allows you to check if a photograph is morphed but the softwares I used to check it proved that the photo is real. However it is an inconclusive proof.
You folks have a look at this camera grab where Armaan and Tanisha are caught in a passionate smooch.
The rowers of Great Britain’s University of Warwick are battling homophobia by getting naked. For their fifth consecutive year, the British rowing team has unveiled another nude calendar — featuring the young men in their au-naturale glory. The nude calendars, which began in 2009, were conceived as a way of fundraising to spread awareness against homophobia. Since then, sales have spread internationally, with last year’s calendar selling out within a couple of days to customers in over forty countries.
A portion of the sale’s proceeds will go to a new program, Sports Allies, which was recently formed with Educational Action Challenging Homophobia (EACH). This program allows the team to give back to their fans in the gay community by continuing their fight against homophobia in the form of an “It Gets Better”-like campaign and crisis hotline.
The photographer of the calendar is the London-based lensman, Angus Malcolm. If the ubiquity of these photos on social media and news outlets is any indication, the calendars of these naked rowers will sell like hot cakes once again.
Trouble on home front is probably the last thing a politician wants before forthcoming state elections and the general election. Unfortunately one of our brightest young Member of Parliament and a Minister in the government, Sachin Pilot is embroiled in a domestic tiff. And the worst bit about Sachin’s wifey Sara leaving him and packing off to her dad’s house is the fact that a friend (He too hails from a political family from Madhya Pradesh.) fueled the split.
Sachin Pilot and Sara Abdullah’s love-story was fairy-tale of sorts. Sara married Sachin against her family’s wishes, which later got reconciled. So what led to Sachin-Sara split? Well, a friend (rather a snake) poisoned the wifey’s mind and that embittered the relation. Sachin was busy in a meeting at a five-star hotel in Delhi but the ‘friend’ twisted the work meeting into a scandalous rendezvous and when Sara spotted hubby’s car at the hotel, she bought the malicious story and packed her bags and moved out from her house to her dad’s.
Hope things work out for this nice couple and they should discover the true friends from snakes posing as friends.
Another suave diplomat turned politician who got married just a couple of years back is going through a topsy-turvy time on home front. His wife was infamously branded by NaMo as an expensive girlfriend. Things are not fine between the couple but the two are portraying a happy couple picture on advise from the commander of the political party till elections get over.
It wasn’t an easy task to narrow down to the best three collections that I saw at the just concluded Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Spring-Summer 2014. More than fifty designers showcased their collections over the five days and shortlisting ‘My Top-3′ was indeed a herculean task.
The parameters over which, I decided my best three were style and cut, fabrics used (summer friendly), texturisation techniques applied and finally the overall construction and finish. Mind you, this is my personal Top-3.
I enjoyed Namrata Joshipura’s collection. The ‘storm’ and ‘ocean’ prints were absolutely fabulous. The printed shirt-dress with lapels encrusted with metal embroidery and gold metal dress with all-over metallic embroidery exhibited the finesse with which, it was executed and same was the case with the jumpsuit. Floral cut-work skirt, shirt with metallic detailing on the collar and the placket grabbed my attention too. Lastly I loved the sporty feel of the collection and clean constructions.
Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna used the nude tone and sheer fabric to exhibit a super glam and sensual look. It is definitely not easy to execute metallic embroidery work on flimsy net but the duo did it deftly. The interplay of sheer with opaque was interesting. But what was astounding was the way the dresses were structured using panels at the waist, princess-seams around the bust and the juxtaposition of the contours of the horizontal rows of sequin embroidery with the curved and circular ones. It was nothing but sheer engineering. Loved the combination of pewter with icy-silver sequins and the impeccable finish.
Rahul Mishra’s interplay of traditional Jaamdani weave with jersey and contemporary quilting work on his ensembles were beautiful. Even the often-used Baandhani work found newness in the way Rahul used it on his garments. Interplay of sheer and opaque found way in Rahul Mishra’s collection too.
She is one of India’s supermodel and has the prettiest face in the glam industry. Yes we are talking about Indrani Dasgupta. Indrani and hotelier Karan Paul of the Apeejay Group are the hot-couple making the news in the capital.
Karan Paul, brother of Priya and Preeti Paul of Apeejay Group that amongst other businesses own the Park Hotel chain and Karan is also the co-owner of the IPL Team – Kings XI Punjab. Indrani has separated from her husband – Yzudhmanyue and had been seeing Karan for more than a year now.
The two makes for a great couple and if the grapevine is to be believed, Karan Paul and Indrani Dasgupta would get hitched soon!
At times you watch a collection of a fashion designer and is so impressed by it that emotions run high and you passionately feel that if this designer had a backing of a venture capitalist, he/she can take on the world. On Day 2 of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, Spring-summer 2014 I felt that way after watching Rahul Mishra’s show. It was an immaculate collection that had the perfect symbiosis of tradition Indian textiles used to create contemporary global styles. The innovative surface texturisation, modern application of traditional Bandhni work and Bengal’s Jaamdani weave, fine detailing using metal zippers and clean construction made Rahul Mishra’s spring-summer 2014 collection a fabulous one.
Designers like Mishra can take on the designers of London, Paris, New York and Milan. Wish they had financial power. Wish India had a ‘fashion philanthropist’ like Sir Philip Green of Topshop. Fashion Tycoon, Green has nurtured young talent and funded them through corpus funds, sponsoring nextGen shows at London Fashion Week and has pledged to help more and more young people get ahead in the designing and manufacturing of clothes. Sir Philip Green is not doing charity. He is investing in the most valuable asset – creative human resource, which eventually bears him fruit.
Indian tycoons are are rarely known for philanthropic work. And when it comes to fashion, it’s a business very few fund managers understand. We have Kishore Biyani who does invest in fashion but plays safe and goes for brands like Global Desi and Biba, which harldly qualifies as ‘fashion’. We have the much-touted L-Capital who would go for iconic names like Sabyasachi and Rohit Bal and after a year are yet to close the deal. We have venture capitalist who are funding illegit E-Commerce business the retails online copy’s of Abercrombie, Polo and Hollister. There are no visionaries who would fund a start-up designer label and there are no agency or advisor who can bring design talents and funders together.
It makes me sad. A Rupees 10Crore fund can take two talented designers and make their label reckoned globally. But there aren’t any to do such small investments in a safe business but many to sink in millions of dollars on E-Commerce companies sprouting like mushroom.
Over the past decade and more I have been reporting on India Fashion Week. In fact I had been doing it since the birth of India Fashion Week and have learnt that certain slots and ‘sponsored shows’ are for privileged ones. Designer Masaba Gupta seems to be one such privileged designer at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW).
Masaba opened the previous WIFW; Autumn-Winter 2013 fashion week and I know that the opening shows for a season are for the privileged designers. At WIFW autumn-winter 2013, Masaba made her debut as the Creative Director of Satya Paul and I must acknowledge the fact that I loved her debut collection for Satya Paul. She infused youthfulness in the brand.
At the Delhi Couture Week 2013 when the title sponsor - PCJ – decided to have a show, Masaba Gupta for Satya Paul was chosen for it. I was taken by surprise. Satya Paul is a hard-core Pret label and I was perplexed at their selection in Couture Week. Well one can’t comment much about a ‘sponsored show’ as the sponsor plays a major role in who they want as their designer. Anyway Satya Paul’s ‘Demi Couture’ ( a terminology I hadn’t heard before) collection by Masaba did not impress me much. In fact I found lot of similarities from Jason Wu and Prada’s spring-summer 2013 collection where black and white flowers were trending. Here is the link on that for you to see: http://www.accessoriesmagazine.com/56139/breaking-trends-spring-2013-black-and-white-flowers
The Spring-Summer 2014 edition of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week kicks-off today and Masaba Gupta is yet again the privileged one to open the week. Not only that, she is doing the ‘sponsored show’ for Nano. I hope her collection justifies the privileges she is enjoying.
Anyway I just discovered a coffee mug-holder that Sherlyn Chopra should get patented and then make millions. I am amused at the strategic placement of the coffee mug by the ingenious Sherlyn Chopra. Wondering if Desi Playmate has placed the cup of coffee to warm it up or is it the other way around…
Guys what do you think? Is Sherlyn warming up the coffee or it’s vice versa? Hoping she doesn’t spill the coffee though!
The India Bridal Fashion Week 2013, which was scheduled from 18th October till the 24th October 2013 at The Grand Hyatt is indefinitely postponed. Vijay Singh of Fashion One that hosts the annual bridal week is yet to announce the reason behind the sudden postponement.
In 2013 India Bridal Fashion Week made its debut in Delhi this July and also announced to take the event global with a London schedule in January 2014. The designers slotted for the Mumbai edition of the Bridal Week had hopes of capturing newer segments of the big-fat-wedding market with this event but those hopes are now shattered.
The Mumbai event had the Delhi line-up of designers like Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani, Suneet Varma, JJ Valaya and the others. Manish Malhotra and Gaurav Gupta were two new names that were to showcase in the Mumbai edition.
Will find out what led to this sudden postponement of the India Bridal Fashion Week just fortnight before it was to kick-off and keep you posted.
Genesis Luxury is one of the largest players of the luxury business in India and are the franchisee of multiple international luxury brands in India. L-Capital, the Private Equity (PE) arm of LVMH that had invested close to 40% in Genesis Luxury has demanded that its founder either buys out its 40 per cent stake or should sell the luxury brands marketing firm completely.
The reasons behind L-Capital walking out of Genesis Luxury is primarily the performance of the company. Genesis Luxury made Rs 72 lakh profit for the year ending March 2012 on a revenue of Rs 92 crores. L-Capital also had doubts on the way the financial accounts were handled by Genesis Luxury. Ravi Thakran of L-Capital wanted the accounts of Genesis Luxury be audited by top audit firms like KPMG or Ernst & Young but this recommendation wasn’t paid heed to by Sanjay Kapoor, the man behind Genesis Luxury.
Genesis Colors, the parent company of Genesis Luxury incurred a loss of Rs. 6.75 Crores in the year ending March 2012. Now with L-Capital pulling out its 40% stake in Genesis Luxury, it’s going to be a tough task for Kapoor to keep the company afloat.
As we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti today, I just thought of posting Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s style evolution from dapper well-constructed three-piece suits to draped ‘half-dhotis’ and a khadi wrap. The Mahatma’s style evolution symptomised the evolution of an Attorney to a Mahatma!
For the uninitiated, in July this year Yash Raj Films (YRF) and the Delhi based Karol Bagh Saree House (KBSH) inked a deal to launch India’s first Bollywood inspired fashion label - Diva’ni -’Where fashion romances Bollywood’. The label reflects the way Yash Chopra envisioned his heroines and brought out the DIVA in every woman he worked with.
So it comes as no surprise that the Chopra Khandaan wants to celebrate Yash Chopra’s birth anniversary on the 27th of September 2013 with a fashion show where the leading ladies of Yash Chopra’s films will strut the ramp in Diva’ni creations.
Katrina Kaif, Rani Mukherjee, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta are expected to walk the ramp in Diva’ni’s latest collection. What will Shah Rukh Khan do? Emcee the evening or cross-dress and pay tribute to Yash ji on his first birth anniversary???
The fashion glossy – Vogue has two of its editions – The Dutch and the French graced with topless models on the cover for the October 2013 issue. Vogue Netherlands got on the act with a photo spread featuring model Ymre Stiekema, 21, dressed in 17th century garments and posing in ways meant to evoke portraits by the Dutch painter Jan Vermeer. In the image that’s getting the most attention, Stiekema is half-undressed, breastfeeding a baby.
Sure, TIME‘s infamous breastfeeding cover sparked debate last year about extending the practice and added fuel to the “mommy wars” fire. But Angelina Jolie’s personal breastfeeding snaps, which covered W magazine back in 2008, were met with a much more peaceful reception.
Not only Vogue Netherlands went for a cover baring boobs, the Vogue Paris too joined in the topless adventure with models Edita Vilkeviciute and her supermodel friend Anja Rubik showing off their model funbags on the pages of the glossy. Isn’t it just a stunt to sell more copies? Waaddddyyaaa say???
Lately World Press is lapping up the story of an NRI film-maker, Nisha Pahuja’s documentary - The World Before Her. The film shows contradictory realities confronting girls in India and is so myopic that it made The Guardian go with this headline:
You can see the extracts from Nisha Pahuja’s new award winning feature-length documentary here:
The film is showing the extremes in a very twisted manner. Yes I agree that the facts shown are true but they are not the right yardstick to judge women in India. I presume NaMo - the Hindu Nationalist is already creating a warped perception about India. I didn’t like Pahuja’s documentary. Let me know what you feel about it.
As you all know that Bigg Boss is a licensed reality show conceptualised by Endemol as Big Brother globally. But when it comes to comparing Bigg Boss with its original avatar - Big Brother, the voyeuristic reality show is like Doodh-Bhaat! Big Brother cameras follow you everywhere, even in the showers. Bigg Boss is too antiseptic. What to do??? We are like this only!!!
Here are some TV Grabs from Big Brother Season 10 in Germany. The contestant is shown in full buff soaping herself in the shower. Wonder who would have been the contestants if Bigg Boss followed Big Brother totally? Any guesses folks??? Salman Khan definitely wouldn’t have anchored it.
I recently posted about a new Desi Sugar-Daddy – Raja Dhody and his wannabe playmate Rupika Chopra. Here is the link to that post: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-332ere
Evidently the Punjabi Kudi – Rupika Chopra has gone aggro and denying any truth about my post. But then at fashionscandal.com only hard truths are published and all stories are posted only after thoroughly verifying facts. Miss Chopra may be feeling the heat but then that doesn’t make the news false. To substantiate my story I am posting pictures of Rupika Chopra and Raja Dhody, which aren’t morphed and she may get them tested from any forensic lab about their authenticity.
in fact if we start writing about Rupika Chopra’s exploits in Delhi, this site will become an ‘Adult Site’. Madam you are welcome to challenge the facts!
There is an addition to the infamous list of Desi Sugar-Daddies. This Sugar-Daddy is from Mumbai and is a globe-trotter and is twice divorced. I am talking about Raja Dhody. After his daughter’s marriage, Raja hardly stays in Mumbai. He is globe-totting with his pal – Vijay Mallya. Raja is seeing this wannabe from Chandigarh called Rupika Chopra. This 29-year-old is a veteran gold-digger. Before latching on to Raja, she was having an affair with a former tennis player. Then she moved on to another Delhi money-bag who runs a finance company. In fact Rupika was an employee in the finance company. Eventually she met Raja Dhody through common friends and discovered him to be her best-catch till now.
Who is Rupika? Well nothing much to write about her besides the fact that she mastered the art of ‘climbing ladders‘ and is a pro in ‘pussy-management’. She originally hails from Chandigarh and pleaded with her girlfriends to let her stay with them in Delhi. Rupika also participated in a random beauty pageant where she couldn’t even make it to top-20 even after ‘couching’ with the organizers.
However Rupika is now enjoying high-life with Raja Dhody who is spending most of his time in London. Courtesy Raja, she is staying at expensive hotels like Grosvenor, Dorchester and Four Seasons and sipping Cristal. But that hasn’t stopped this Punjabi-Kudi from bitching about her Sugar-Daddy. She boasts to her friends that Raja is very possessive about her and has hired a detective agency to keep track of her movements. Rupika also claims that Raja wants to tie-the-knot. Ha-ha-ha!
Raja Dhody had two bad-marriages but then I feel bad at what he got stuck with. This gold-digger is not worth it!
Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung who is now well entrenched in the American Fashion Industry showcased his spring-summer 2014 collection on Day 3 at New York Fashion Week. I saw the show online and was impressed by the show presentation. Models entered all at once and stood in line on the white tile platform, surrounded by a clear plastic screen. The collection as per Gurung showcased the, ‘Mysterious side of women‘.
Well what caught my attention was that each and every garment looked so different when the models turned around. The front of the garment and the back of it had a total different look. Prabal Gurung deftly used ‘back-brace’ or what you can call ‘harness-back’ detailing. Extreme wasp-waisted midi length skirts, folded bustiers, bombers and jackets created out of duchesse satin, tulle and lacquered finish fabric dominated the show. Gurung also used bold brush strokes on PVC and Perspex to give a sporty feel to the collection. It was a fifties inspired look and that ‘Mysterious Woman’ that inspired Gurung to create the collection couldn’t have been anybody but Marilyn Monroe.
Both – Vikram Chatwal and Esther Cañadas had been married earlier. Chatwal got married to Priya Sachdev in 2006 while for Esther if this engagement matures to a wedding, it would be her third marriage. She was married to male model Mark Vanderloo in the late 1990s and then race-car driver Sete Gibernau. The couple split in 2008.
Tabloids were linking Vikram Chatwal to Lindsay Lohan and were rather surprised when news came in that Chatwal proposed Esther. Well they should have known that Lindsay Lohan and Vikram Chatwal are just Coke-Buddies!
Here you can see Queenie sitting next to Nari Hira in a sequinned short dress and flashing her knicker. High-time Queenie you give up short-dresses and wear something that suits your age!
American supermodel Kendra Spears became a princess yesterday after marrying the eldest son – Prince Rahim Aga Khan – of billionaire racehorse owner, His Highness Aga Khan IV. The Seattle-born beauty, 25, wore a stunning ivory Manav Gangwani sari with gold embroidery to marry Prince Rahim Aga Khan, 41, in a traditional Muslim ceremony. After the engagement in April this year, the couple exchanged vows yesterday at the Bellerive Castle in Geneva, Switzerland.
It’s quiet a coup for Gangwani to bag the task of designing the wedding finery for one of the world’s richest royals. Karim Aga Khan and his son – Rahim are one of the world’s ten richest royals and international business magnates, with an estimated net worth of $800 million USD (2010). Princess Kendra Spears is an achiever in her own right. She is a supermodel and has worked with all the big-ticket designers and labels. So how did Manav Gangwani get to know the Aga Khan family that has the reputation of being very discreet? When I called up Manav at Geneva, as usual he wasn’t forthcoming. Understandable as the royal families make you sign a ‘Non Disclosure Agreement’ (NDA).
|Kendra Spears (@Kendra_Spears)|
|Naomi Campbell (@NaomiCampbell)|
I do like the ivory sari that Kendra wore and the ivory sherwani donned by Prince Rahim. Kudos to Gangwani. His networking does pay off and if my sources are right, Gangwani is dressing a Hollywood celeb!
PS: Please don’t copy this post and publish as yours…
Priyanka Chopra walked the ramp for the American label, Bisou-Bisou on the final day of the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. Wonder why she walked for a label that’s almost forgotten by fashionistas. Unless off-course she was paid big-bucks to do so.
Piggy Chops wore a a very basic black one-shoulder Peplum top paired over a knitted/jersey bottom. In fact she wore the same ensemble what the designer for Bisou-Bisou, Michele Bohbot wore. They were like sisters-in arms on the ramp.
But then that’s not what bothered me. It was that fugly ‘Camel Toe’ that Priyanka Chopra strutted in that made me go – Eeeeekkkks! Bottoms made out of jersey or knits are prone to cause the ‘Camel Toe’ faux pas but when one is a showstopper, she can’t afford to strut down the ramp flashing a fugly ‘Camel Toe’. A different underwear could have taken care of the problem PeeCee darling!!!
Interview unveiled its latest Model Issue this weekend that has seven ageless iconic supermodels shot by Mert and Marcus. The black and white images of Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Amber Valetta, Stephanie Seymour, Linda Evangelista, and Daria Werbowy are simple with minimal makeup. The Model Issue of Interview has Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour and Daria posing stark naked and believe you me, they look as they haven’t aged a bit.
Just after browsing through the Model Issue of Interview I chanced upon the picture of Sangeeta Bijlani shot yesterday on the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week. Have to say Bijlani too is one of those ageless Desi Supermodel. Have a look for yourself!
Recently I read about Sobhaa De’s ‘overwhelming experience’ aboard Vijay Mallya’s luxury yacht, Kalizma on her Blog. India Forum readers had a lot to comment about it. This is what Sobhaa wrote, “On a personal note, thanks to our host Vijay Mallya, my husband and I were fortunate enough to spend a few nights on the same bed Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor had shared on their splendid yacht, the matchless ‘Kalizma’, which Vijay now owns! As you can imagine, it was an overwhelming experience!!” Well this is not the first time Sobhaa De and her compulsory baggage, dear hubby, Dilip De had enjoyed Mallya’s hospitality aboard his luxurious yacht. Sobhaa De has a weakness for junkets – a scribe’s parlance for all-paid-for-trip! A few years back De was with Vijay Mallya on his yacht holidaying and the beauty was anchored in Monaco. No sooner did Sobhaa De discover it was Ronaldo Luiz’s yacht anchored next to Mallya’s, she hopped on to Ronaldo’s yacht. Ronaldo was partying with his buddies and babes and had run out of champagne. Star-struck Sobhaa De found it to be the most opportune moment and volunteered to organise some champagne. She quickly got back to Mallya’s yacht and asked a deck-hand to bring over a case of Dom Perignon to Ronaldo’s yacht. Poor Mallya must be cursing under his breath.
Then we have this gold-digging NRI Aunty - Kanika Chandhok, who post her divorce insists to be called Kanika Kapoor. She was at the nightclub – Project in London where incidentally the biggest soccer star – Lionel Messi dropped in. Kanika jumped all the velvet-ropes and almost landed on Messi and smothered him with kisses. Poor guy was just dealing with her as yet another crazy fan. Kanika literally offered herself on a platter but Messi wasn’t interested in a old hag. But the gold-digger managed to get a snap of hers with Messi, which she flaunts, garnished with some spicy story.
We also have B-Town girls running into soccer stars. Most recently it was Priyanka Chopra who met Cristiano Ronaldo in Miami and she too didn’t miss on the the photo-op. which was promptly posted on Twitter. Bollywood Gandu gave the best description on Piggy Chops’ outfit that she looked like the goal-post in that netted ensemble. Bipasha Basu ran into Cristiano Ronaldo in Berlin and they smooched too. It was the final straw that snapped her years old affair with John Abraham.
When it comes to creating uber expensive products, nobody can beat Hermès. To celebrate the reopening of its 12,000-square-foot Beverly Hills boutique on September 4th Hermès has created two bright blue basketballs, each priced at $ 12,900. The regular Spalding one costs $ 169.95.
Hermès, which has turned out footballs and soccer balls in the past, opted for California-chic, cool blue instead of their signature orange for the bull calfskin ball that’s made using the same hand-stitched technique as Hermes’ coveted Birkin.
The two basketballs were produced at special-orders atelier in Paris under the creative direction of Pierre-Alexis Dumas.
This split-up story was first published by Miss Malini but in a ‘Blind-Item’ format in a cryptic manner. The couple aren’t that big a celeb pair that cryptic clues could have been deciphered by most. Anyway fashionscandal.com is unabashedly blunt and totally uncensored and hence would just state the facts that model turned choreographer Marc Robinson has separated from his lovely wife Waluscha D’souza, a former model too. This was coming as Marc was always seen dressed tacky to the ‘T’ and flaunting his wannabe female models . In fact I don’t even remember when was it last when I saw Waluscha and Marc Robinson together.
The other split-up involves somebody from Bollywood. Well she isn’t an actress but she is the sister of one of the biggest producers of Bollywood movies. I am talking about Khushali Kumar, the daughter of Gulshan Kumar of T-Series and sister to Bhushan Kumar and Kishan Kumar. Khushali has separated from Nishant Arora, the doyens of Basmati Rice. The family of Khushali, Bhushan Kumar hasn’t taken this well. Kumars are extremely conservative when it comes to women in their family.
If Khushali separated for the first time, Queenie is a pro in splitsville with two separations already in her kitty. She definitely goes for the guy who has enough moolah. After years of marriage with Raja Dhody, Queenie stole her so-called best friend’s hubby – Farhad Taraporewala. Poor dentist was dumped few years later and though she went back to Raja but by then Raja Dhody had become an Urban Nomad, globetrotting. Now Queenie has found love in Rishi Sethia, a London-based NRI who was married to Neelam Kothari years ago. Last few years Gunita Sodhi and Rishi Sethia were dating but then well-informed people say Gunita dumped him, while Londoners claim it’s the other way. Guess who would be most upset about Rishi Sethia and Queenie getting serious??? It would be none other than former friend Anju Chulani whose husband Queenie stole. Anju made London her home last year and if Queenie becomes a Londoner too, Anju will say, ‘Oh Gawd!’
By the way there is another splitsville in ‘Work-in-Process’ mode. More on that later.
Did you know that the movie industry down-south – the Telegu films, Tamil fimls and Malyalam films are overcrowded by leading-ladies who are not from the south. In fact Hansika Motwani is one of Tollywood’s biggest star.
Anyway this post is not about non South-Indian girls dominating the South-Indian movie industry. It is about sleaze and knicker flash. Here are two heroines who are doing well in Hyderabad and Chennai but have horrific style sense. Pragya Jaiswal is flashing her pink panty while Neelam Upadhyay is giving a peek of her Spanx. Will somebody please teach the actresses, both from Bollywood and Tollywood on how to sit when donning a short-dresses???
And I found this picture of Tollywood superstar – Dhanush. It’s so sleazy! In the picture Dhanush is nothing more than a bag of bones and he is lusting over a Southern belle – Tejashree with thunderous thighs. What a sleazy image!
Bernie Ecclestone screwed Jaypee Group, the organisors of Formula-1 at Buddh Circuit in India by taking out India from Formula – 1 2014 Calendar. The reason accorded by Ecclestone is that he wants to reshuffle the dates from October to March. Why would Bernie do that? October is definitely abetter time to host Grand-Prix in India than in March. The weather is nice, the festive season takes off around October and people are in celebratory mode. March is hot in Delhi and definitely not the best time weatherwise in north India.
Bernie Ecclestone who has recently been accused in a scam is playing the game of reshuffling the Formula-1 Calendar to accommodate Moscow in Formula-1 Circuit. It is absolutely unfair on Ecclestone to dump India from Grand-prix in 2014. India being a nascent circuit did not deserve it. More so when India was judges as the ‘Best Circuit’ in Formula One Grand Prix.
Jaypee Sports is definitely not happy with Bernie Ecclestone’s decision but then Ecclestone who runs F-1 as his personal fiefdom can’t be reasoned. Probably Moscow has paid Bernie to tweak the calendar and that makes me believe that the scam he is embroiled in is true.
Arora’s penchant for using light-reflecting material on his creations goes way back. I very well remember Manish using the ‘reflector’ material on his creations almost five years back. But this time he used it in Indian Bridal Wear collection and even used it on nose-rings and maang-tika.
Stylist Gautam Kalra took this image with his iPhone an it’s absolutely surreal! See if you can identify the models in this picture.
The debut India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 in Delhi ended on Sunday and the only high-point about this six-day affair were two outstanding collections presented by Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani. Amongst the limited number of shows that I attended, I also liked the collection of Ashima-Leena and Suneet Varma (barring a few ensembles).
Money wasn’t a constraint for Vijay Singh, the organisor of the event. Wish he would had spent a bit more to hire generators and additional air-conditioning. It was unbearable to sit at a show when you have to fan yourself with paper folders to avoid sweat trickling down your nose. And there was nothing ‘VIP’ about the so-called ‘VIP Lounge’ where designers hosted pre-show cocktails. A relative of a top-designer put it out on her facebook status how she was leched upon by a group of five lusty men as she sipped her cheap chardonnay. To score a drink from the bar was a herculean task, more so for women who had to dodge through opportunist sickos eying to brush the boobs or rub against their butts. Lack of proper air-conditioning and bad profiling of guests were an attack on my delicate olfactory senses courtesy pungent body odour.
In fact I overheard fashionistas repenting wearing a short dress or one with a plunging neck-line. Prominent persons like Sharmila Tagore, Suhel Seth and Rian Karanjawala were hassled by unheard of delays in starting of shows and the tacky crowd that crowded the ‘VIP Lounge’. Yes the delays in the shows were killing. With just two shows per night and with two Show areas, more than hour and half delays are unpardonable.
Why wasn’t there any profiling of guest? Why were random property dealers, shopkeepers and notorious gatecrashers crowding the event? I guess with sponsors like AMR and its owner Kapil Aggarwal, property dealers were essential evil. But a couture event is all about, class, finesse and snob-value. Bridal Week definitely lacked it.
Money can buy you ‘paid editorial’ and I heard people jokingly renaming two top Delhi supplements as ‘Bridal Times’ and ‘Bridal City’. But I saw the frustration of reporters and photo-journalists who were chasing to get comments and pictures of people who were supposed to be clicked as per the directions of Medianet and Brand Solution.
Lastly the ‘Bridal Expo’ segment of the week was lost amidst complaints and controversies.
There is so much demand for pictures of Katrina Kaif in a bikini in Ibiza, Spain with beau Ranbir Kapoor that I thought I should post them here for Kat’s crazy fans. But yes one need to thank Stardust for this candid pictures of Ranbir and Katrina holidaying in Spain.
An international photographer captured these pictures and had no knowledge of who Katrina and Ranbir were. Once he discovered that the two are India’s superstars, he did a lucrative deal with Stardust magazine. But I am not so gung-ho about Katrina in her red chaddi. Wadddyyyya say???
The Delhi based designer who is in his forties is one of the top Indian designer and has alliances with some international brands of handbags, cars and crystals too. Though in his forties, our designer can beat anyone in his thirties in looks and energy. He has been dating his boyfriend over the past three years and finally decided to take the marital plunge. Kudos to that!
The designer and his better half had a soiree in Delhi last week and it was a night of bonhomie!
It has been announced that Kate Middleton has given birth to a baby boy! Prince William and Duchess Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have named their newborn baby George Alexander Louis.
The new baby was born at St Mary’s hospital in London, after the expectant mum was admitted around 6.30 am on Monday, having gone into labour at Kensington Palace, where she spent the weekend with Prince William.
The baby is third in line to the throne, after grandfather Prince Charles and Prince William.
He weighed eight pounds six ounces and was delivered in the Lindo wing of the hospital at 4.24. The new mum and baby are said to be doing well. Kate was tended to during her labour by a top medical team led by the Queen’s former gynaecologist Marcus Setchell.
Prince Charles released a statement:
“Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.
Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”
Last night at Baba Siddiqui’s Iftaar Party Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan greeted and hugged each other. Salman Khan who arrived later walked up to the table where Shahrukh Khan was sitting and tapped him on the shoulder from behind and then SRK got up and hugged Salman Khan.
In fact Shahrukh Khan spent considerable time with Salim Khan, father of Salmak Khan at the dinner table at Baba Siddiqui’s Iftaar Party. Later SRK Tweeted, ‘Finally u realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world, becos there is so much more to the book than the page u were stuck on.’

Jack – Mumbai mirror has again gone and reprinted two of your scoops in today’s edition – about the Nepotism in Bridal week and Ms mahtani!
Mumbai Mirror has been shamelessly stealing stories from this site and doesn’t even have the basic courtesy of seeking permission or giving due credit to fashionscandal.com. This is not the first time a TOI Group Publication has done it. There have been multiple stories stolen before.
The mention of Lulia Vantur’s former husband, Marius Moga and pictures of her with him infuriated Salman Khan. Well fame is a double-edged sword. If it comes with load of perks, it also carries some pain. So Sallu Bhai just chill.
So what if Lulia, the Romanian beauty had been married and divorced??? It’s no big deal. In fact Lulia Vantur got married to musician Marius Moga in March of 2008. Now she is divorced and in India with boyfriend Salman Khan.
In ten days the India Bridal Fashion Week 2013 takes off for the first time in Delhi. The pet project of Vijay Singh supported by the Sahara Group has gone on a media blitzkrieg with newspaper advertisements and paid editorials through Medianet at Times of India and Brand Solution at Hindustan Times.
Jacqueline Fernandez is the brand ambassadress of the event and Vijay Singh, the organiser of the Bridal Week has ensured that the Bollywood actress walks exclusive for his wife – Jyotsna Tiwari’s show. Yes I know Alia Bhatt is going to strut the ramp for the finale show by Tarun Tahiliani but it is Jacqueline who is splurged across the print advertisements in Jyotsna Tiwari ensemble. The Advertisements doesn’t fail to give due credit to the fact in print at the the left-hand-bottom corner. In fact Jyotsna Tiwari has been availing this privilege at all the Bridal Weeks courtesy her hubby, Vijay Singh.
Could you imagine a designer - Jyotsna Tiwari – who more than once failed to qualify at FDCI hosted shows getting such a regal treatment and sharing the slot with an established designer like Rina Dhaka??? Jab Mian Hawaldar, Kis Baat Ka Darr! I guess none of the designers are protesting this blatant nepotism as they are paid handsomely to participate in the Bridal Week.
Priyanka Chopra sure knows how to lure in people. In her recently released Single – Exotic, Piggy Chops dons a flesh toned swimsuit to grab the eyeballs. Chopra has been getting overwhelming response for Exotic from her fans and music buffs across the world. The Single is No. 1 on iTunes India.
In Exotic PC collaborated with Pitbull. This is what Priyanka Chopra said, “I recorded ‘Exotic’ in Ibiza with musical genius and visionary RedOne and none other than Mr. Worldwide aka Pitbull. Together they helped me create a hot and sexy summer anthem that I am so proud of! This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to share this song and the rest of the album with you!”
Here is the FIRST COMPLETE Exotic video: http://youtu.be/sPhhZg9v9NU
Now don’t get ideas about Nandita Mahtani getting hitched again. I am talking about London based Anu Mirchandani, the elder sister of Nandita Mahtani. And the best part is that Anu who is 40 now is getting hitched to the scion of the Asia’s richest Indian family. Yes Anu Mirchandani most likely will tie the knot with Sanjay Gopichand Hinduja this year.
The self proclaimed ‘Kaaftan Queen’ - Anu Mirchandani has been dating Sanjay Hinduja – the Chairman of Gulf Oil for quiet some time. But then the 48-year-old Sanjay had his fair share of link-ups. Around 2005 the buzz was that Naina Bachchan, the daughter of Ajitabh and Ramola Bachchan is likely to get married to Sanjay Hinduja. But then it never happened and Naina now seeing Kunal Kapoor. Around 2008 Sophie Choudhary was intensely pursuing Sanjay Hinduja. In fact when Sanjay hosted the Aston-Martin bash in Mumbai in 2008, Sophie was de-facto hostess.
I guess with age everybody gets tamed and the 48-year-old billionaire Sanjay Hinduja is finally settling down. As per my sources, Anu Mirchandani and Sanjay Hinduja are officially engaged. Anu has a 18-year-old son – Rohail from her previous marriage. By the way Anu Mirchandani and Nandita Mahtani jointly run their store Ananya in London and Mumbai and claim to have international celebrity clientele flocking in.
I got this images courtesy a friend who was at Macau for IIFA 2013. Have a look! I hate the shiny suit that Shahrukh Khan is wearing. And what’s with his penchant for Velvet??? In this glitzy suit the velvet lapels make it look more tacky. Vidya Balan, well less said the better and is Parineeti Chopra trying to do the Angelina thingy with her thigh-high slit gown???
The forthcoming PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013 that is scheduled from 31st July till 4th August at the Taj Palace Hotel has sealed the tenth and final couturier. She is Monisha Jaising who enamours Indian fashionistas with her lovely gowns and cocktail numbers.
PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2013 will see Anamika Khanna doing an off-site show at the Leela Hotel in Chanakyapuri. Arjun Khanna who is known for his menswear will show women couture for the first time at the Couture Week and Manish Malhotra will bring the curtains down with his finale show on the 4th of August.
Manish Arora will mesmerise us with his couture collection on the penultimate day, i.e Saturday, the 3rd of August.
Beaded and crystal encrusted masks that looked like a bouquet of flowers were definitely romantic and was in line with Margiela’s floral line-up. He paired cuffed-up jeans with knee-high boots (sans blouses) with satin and floral embroidered drapes. Margiela also used cropped beaded cloaks that extended as a part of the mask.
Glazed slouchy leather pants with leather trench, sheer A-line coat-dresses with intricate 3-D floral work on the hem and some jeweled long coat-dresses comprised Martin Margiela’s edgy collection.
All kind of things happen on fashion runways. Models in killer-heels trip and fall, garments slip-off or rip at the seams causing wardrobe malfunction but what happened at Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear show in Milan was probably the first of its kind. A streaker (who has yet to be identified) stripped down to his little red loafers and managed to run most of the length of the runway, both fists raised triumphantly in the air, before security nabbed him.
GQ associate fashion editor Matt Sebra described it:
“While the designers come out for their bow and turn to walk backstage, from down the other end of the runway a guy rips off his clothes. (Not sure if it was breakaway suit or what.) Full freeball. Says nothing anyone can understand and just kind of zig zags up the runway before the first security guard tries to cut him off. Maneuvers a little but turns back and that’s when four guards create a perimeter to block his junk and he’s taken away. Fashion community says ‘huh.’”
The “fashion community” of menswear editors and buyers seem pretty blasé about the whole thing, getting up to leave following the show as if nothing had happened.
What a bloody coincidence! The day the news came in that for UK Visa Indians have to pay in a 3000 pounds deposit, it’s established that Shahrukh and Gauri Khan’s surrogate baby is borne by a British woman living in London. The baby will be delivered in London and as per surrogacy laws SRK-Gauri’s new-born would be a British citizen.
Well that also explains SRK-Gauri’s frequent London trips. Their love for London is a known factor.
But why another baby at this age. They could have adopted one like Brangelina!!!
Gawd…how can one be dressed so hideously??? Somebody please gift Anjalee Kapoor a full-length mirror. Here is what she wore for a luncheon do at Blliis By Ravissant, hosted by Charoo Chawla Anand and Tanisha Mohan.
Those sunglasses…they are scary. And that body-wrap maxi dress, well it’s definitely not meant for woman with tummy-rolls! I was secretly wishing that Anjalee Kapoor would change her hideous dressing sense in 2013 but hey its become worse.
Actress Jiah Khan’s tragic and untimely death have inspired some in B-Town to make a film on the incident. Filmmaker Rikshhit Matta has reportedly been inspired by the media reports surrounding Jiah’s tragic death and lost love has inspired him to launch ‘Bold Bollywood’ a story about the underbelly of the film fraternity. The film is based on three aspiring actresses who come to Mumbai to make their Bollywood dreams come true. One of the girl’s character is similar to Jiah Khan and the ups and down she goes through reflects the late actress’s life.
Incidently Matta who was researching on the movie for past few months stumbled upon Jiah during a party at a nightclub five months ago and briefly discussed the concept with the late actress and assured her that he would get back to her after the script was finalised. ”Jiah was full of joy and had shown interest in the subject but when she heard that one of characters in the film has a tragic end, she said it was too depressing. I am deeply aghast how can Jiah do the same with her life,” says Matta. Hope Rikshit Matta has taken permission from late Jiah Khan’s mother, Rabia Khan or else he will be fighting a legal case.
Coming back to the ‘Letters Imbroglio’, it doesn’t need a handwriting expert to say that two letters – the Jiah Khan’s suicide note as claimed by her family and Jiah Khan’s love letters to Suraj Pancholi as claimed by Pancholis – are written by two different person. Now we got to see, which one is real and which one is fake. Suicide letter was discovered after six days and is unsigned while the love-letters are duly signed. Hope the cops come out with the truth soon!
Well ruling the Desi Sugar Daddies are two NRI tycoons. One is there in the list of UK’s Richest and lately has made his son-in-law’s family the stakeholders in soon-to-be launched budget airline – Air Asia. Our man still fancies one the trashiest Bollywood actress and pampers her with the world. Lot of who wonder how this C-Grade actress always manage to land up at the Cannes Film Festival should know that it is courtesy her Sugar Daddy’s global influence.
Another NRI tycoon who is got more mistresses than he got hair on his head is still going strong. However he keeps his babies under check. One of his baby – Kanika Chandok – was shopping in Milan and before making a purchase she had to ckick the picture and mention the price and forward it o her Sugar Daddy. On recieving approval only she made the purchase using her Sugar Daddy’s credit card. Well who is this tycoon? Isn’t it obvious? Well his new ventures in India always run into problems for Environment issues.
Another Bollywood C-Grade actress who flaunts her big rack and recently got in to film production with a rich friend has her Sugar Daddy in Pune. He is a real-estate king there and it’s courtesy his money that the actress posing in ‘garters’ is enjoying her life.
Delhi based tycoon who is more famous for his private jets and the fact that he lent it to Arjun Rampal for free to fly in his Bollywood friend for one of LAP’s anniversary is still stuck with his curly haired ex-model bimbo.
A powerful politician from Punjab is new in the list of Sugar Daddies. But this powerful man is somehow playing daddy to a woman old enough to be his aunt. He pays for her stay in India (when she is not in Canada) at the luxurious service apartment in Lodhi (formerly The Aman).
Then there are seedy rich guys in Delhi who are part-time Sugar Daddies. By part-time, I mean these guys don’t take care of the entire cost of living of their babies but occasionally pamper them with luxury bags, heels, watches, jewelry and foreign trips. One notoriously sleazy businessman make’s his wife befriend these babies and then rolls his dice. These are the men who fall for ‘Gold-Diggers’ about whom I wrote recently.
If you thought John Galliano’s interview in Vanity Fair was explosive, you better see his TV Interview with Charlie Rose that he did on Wednesday Night. The hour long interview is a tell-all sort of interview where Galliano literally confesses about his ‘inner demons’.
Dressed in a Navy Blazer and slicked-back hair, Galliano opened up to Charlie Rose about some deeply personal and painful topics, from suicide to addiction to Galliano’s newfound relationship with God: and his discovery that he wasn’t a God himself. He says, “I was a fully functioning addict. It was fine, as long as John took his bow on the runway and the collection was merchandized and marketed… but the drinking did creep up on me. It was very cyclical. After each creative high, there’d be this crash… But of course with the increase of collections, that cycle became faster and faster–there was a collection, like, every four weeks.”
See the full John Galliano interview with Charlie Rose here:
Did he held the Dior bosses or the fashion industry in general for his decline? John Galliano said, “No, I take complete responsibility. I was not honest. Sometimes, I was acting like God. And now I know I’m not in the driver’s seat.” He also opened up to Charlie Rose and confessed, “I was afraid to say no–that little word which, led to my pill and alcohol-fuelled breakdown. In the end, I found myself emotionally, spiritually, physically, mentally bankrupt”.
Jiah Khan’s mother Rabiya Khan has made an alleged suicide note public, in which, Jiah has named Aditya Pancholi’s son Suraj and blamed their troubled-romance for all her depression and personal woes. Meanwhile Mumbai Police has arrested Suraj Pancholi for abetting Jiah Khan’s suicide.
Rabiya Khan in an open letter stated:
“Some sections of the media and some film industry people are speculating that my daughter Jiah committed suicide because of depression related to her career. However the truth is that it happened only because of the trauma and the abuse she suffered at the hands of Suraj Pancholi and his father Aditya Pancholi.
This I know from what Jiah shared with her sisters and me and also from this letter written by Jiah herself that I am attaching here with which was found three days later by my younger daughter in a wallet box belonging to Jiah when she was searching for some poems written by Jiah to be read out at her prayer meeting.
I have decided to make this letter public so that everyone may know the truth behind my daughter’s tragedy.
Below given is a transcript of Jiah’s handwritten letter:.. I am also attaching the photocopies of the actual handwritten pages of her letter.”
Here is the verbatim of Jiah Khan’s ‘tell-all’ six page suicide note penned by Jiah before she hung herself:
“ I don’t know how to say this to you but I might as well now as I have nothing to lose. I’ve already lost everything. If you’re reading this I might have already left or about to leave. I am broken inside. You may not have known this but you affected me deeply to a point where I lost myself in loving you. Yet you tortured me everyday. These days I see no light I wake up not wanting to wake up. There was a time I saw my life with you, a future with you. But you shattered my dreams. I feel dead inside. I’ve never given so much of myself to someone or cared so much. You returned my love with cheating and lies. It didn’t matter how many gifts I gave you or how beautiful I looked for you. I was scared of getting pregnant but I gave myself completely the pain you have caused me everyday has destroyed every bit of me, destroyed my soul. I can’t eat or sleep or think or function. I am running away from everything. The career is not even worth it anymore. When I first met you I was driven, ambitious and disciplined. Then I fell for you, a love I thought would bring out the best in me. I don’t know why destiny brought us together. After all the pain, the rape, the abuse, the torture I have seen previously I didn’t deserve this. I didn’t see any love or commitment from you. I just became increasingly scared that you would hurt me mentally or physically. Your life was about partying and women. Mine was you and my work. If I stay here I will crave you and miss you. So I am kissing my 10-year career and dreams goodbye. I never told you but I received a message about you. About you cheating on me. I chose to ignore it, decided to trust you. You embarrassed me. I never went out, I never went with anyone else. I am a loyal person. I never met anyone with Karthik I just wanted you to feel how you make me feel constantly. No other woman will give you as much as I did or love you as much as I did. I can write that in my blood. Things were looking up for me here, but is it worth it when you constantly feel the pain of heartbreak when the person you love wants to abuse you or threatens o hit you or cheats on you telling other girls they are beautiful or throws you out of their house when you have no where to go and you’ve come to them out of love or when they lie to your face or they make you chase after them in their car. Or disrespects their family. You never even met my sister. I bought your sister presents. You tore my soul. I have no reason to breathe anymore. All I wanted was love. I did everything for you. I was working for us. But you were never my partner. My future is destroyed my happiness snatched away from me. I always wished the best for you, was ready to invest what little money I had in your betterment. You never appreciated my love, Kicked me in the face. I have no confidence or self esteem left, whatever talent whatever ambition you took it all away. You destroyed my life. It hurt me so much that I waited for you for ten days and you didn’t bother buying me something. The Goa trip was my birthday present but even after you cheated I still spent on you. I aborted our baby when it hurt me deeply. You destroyed my Christmas and my birthday dinner when I came back. When I tried my hardest to make your birthday special. You chose to be away from me on Valentines Day. You promised me once we made it to one year we would get engaged. All you want in life is partying, your women and your selfish motives. All I wanted was you and my happiness you took both away from me. I spent money on you selflessly you would throw in my face. When I would cry for you. I have nothing left in this world to live for after this. I wish you had loved me like I loved you. I dreamt of our future. I dreamt f our success. I leave this place with nothing but broken dreams and empty promises. All I want now is to go to sleep and never wake up again. I am nothing. I had everything. I felt so alone even while with you. You made me feel alone and vulnerable. I am so much more than this”.
Silicon Valley entrepreneur – Sabeer Bhatia who married Tanya Sharma in an extravagant 3-day affair in Malaysia filed for a divorce in January 2013 at the Superior Court of San Francisco. The cause cited was ‘irreconcilable differences’.
Anyway the divorce petition has been formalised now but details about how much Bhatia paid Tanya Sharma for an amicable settlement is not known yet. Sabeer and Tanya’s daughter – Ariana however will stay with mother.
When the IPL Spot-Fixing scam hit the nation with the arrest of three Rajasthan Royals players, the social circuit spoke about Raj Kundra’s involvement in hushed tones. Raj Kundra may brag in magazine interviews about his ‘Rags to Riches’ story – how he sold Pashmina shawls imported from India in the European market and made his first big-bucks and then ventured on to trading home aplliances, jewelery and stuff. But then every NRI in London knows about the real deal behind Kundra’s mega bucks. The magic formula was a mega-million VAT Fraud.
The Multi-million VAT scam is basically a complex system of defrauding the government of taxes by creating bogus importing companies. Unfortunately many NRIs in UK indulged in the VAT scam. Some got caught and few lucky ones escaped and now polluting the country of their origin.
It seems IPL Team owners have taken to ‘Betting’ as an integral part of their ‘Revenue Model’. And since the law against ‘Betting’ is so mild in India, the likes of Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra indulged in it. Like Vindoo Dara Singh and Gurunath, Raj Kundra too knows very well that any confession made to police isn’t admissible in court, a vehement denial will follow.
Bloody crooks. Hope Raj Kundra is ousted from IPL and any other form of Indian Cricket permanently. He should go back to VAT Scam!!!
This news should be shared with India’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on how strict Anti-Doping Agencies are world wide. Olympian Skier - Lindsey Vonn had to undergo a mandatory drug test with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) while in a couture gown at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. As per World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) - All elite athletes in all sports are always on call for testing 24/7/365. Testing can and does occur at any time. Athletes are required to report their whereabouts at all times.
Lindsey Vonn, Tiger Woods’ new girlfriend, who is training for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, accompanied designer Cynthia Rowley to the glitzy CFDA awards ceremony at Lincoln Center Monday night. Vonn wearing a Cynthia Rowley gown was sitting among fashion’s elite — including honorees Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Anna Wintour and Michael Kors — when she got a call on her cellphone from the USADA that they are arriving for a mandatory drug-test. They definitely knew that a fashion gala would have drugs flowing.
Several drug testers reached Lincoln Center where Lindsay met the USADA at the bathroom. Vonn had to pee in a plastic cup and drug-testers left with the sample. The entire auditorium breathed a collective sigh of relief and did a celebratory bump.
Wish our NADA could do something similar with Indian sportsmen when they hob-nob with stars at Bollywood parties or prowl on women at the infamous IPL After-Parties hosted by Vijay Mallya.
Bollywood actor Jiah Khan committed suicide in her Juhu flat on Monday night at 11 pm. The reason of her suicide is still unknown. Preliminary reports suggest that Jiah committed suicide though the cause of her death is still unconfirmed. Dia Mirza reportedly broke the news of Jiah’s death on micro blogging site Twitter.
Also known by the name Nafisa Khan, Jiah made her Hindi film debut in 2007 opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the controversial Nishabd. The following year, Jiah went on to appear in the commercially successful Ghajini with Aamir Khan. The actress was last seen in Sajid Khan’s multi-starrer Housefull in 2010. Reacting to the shocking news of Jiah Khan’s suicide, Amitabh Bachchan Tweeted:
Who is this Nilofer Wani? Any idea folks??? All I know that she is originally from Kashmir and then married a brassware guy and moved to Moradabad. Nilofer is omnipresent at any and every do in the Capital and tags along with Ruby Dhalla. She hangs around with Ruby Dhalla, ex Member of Parliament, who too is there at every party, invited or not. What’s Ruby’s trip these days? She claims to be very close to the Badals of Punjab, specifically Sukhbir Badal but I am sure she doesn’t have any scope of entering politics in India as she is a Canadian citizen. So is partying and gate-crashing is all that Ruby does with Nilofer Wani in tow???
Yes they crashed the anniversary bash of a rich Delhi entrepreneur and this time they had a third gold-digger, Dimple Fauzdar (who though has fallen out after Nilofer befriended Ruby.) in the gang. Dimple is a nondescript party crasher with a not-so-holy image and has a husband parked in Dubai. The way the trio were falling over rich men at this party it was vividly evident what they were up to. Their brazen behaviour embarrassed even the most progressive ladies of ladies.
The trio of Nilofer, Ruby and Dimple are often spotted on ‘Page Trash’!
Folks would love to know more about them so write back.
Sahara Shri – Subroto Roy may have announced exiting from IPL’s Pune Franchise and terminating the sponsorship of the Indian Cricket Team due to bad treatment meted out to him by BCCI head-honcho, the stubborn N. Srinivasan and encashing of the Bank Guarantee. But that may be just a smart move on Sahara Shri’s part to exit from IPL where he sunk in Rs.1700 Crores for Pune Franchise for 10 years. Recovering Rs.1700 Crores over 10 years through Pune Warriors seemed like an impossible task and on the other hand since the Government of India allowed private participation in Defence Industry, the biggies are plunging in. We already have Tatas, Mahindras and few more.
Sahara is planning to invest Rs.1500 Crores in a Defence Company -Pipavav Defence & Offshore Ltd, which is lately much in news. Nikhil Gandhi, the man behind Pipavav is a ‘Rag to Riches’ story and has many grey shades. However wonder why the group is so hush-hush about it and dealing through a rogue and tainted stock market manipulator, Vimal Rathod who was trapped by SEBI during his stock market manipulation for Karuturi Global??? Sahara has already bought in shares worth Rs. 150 Crores in Pipavav and now holds more than 10% stake in the company.
Now see the maths that fits so well that it makes me believe that Sahara’s exit from IPL and/or Cricket sponsorship in general is not about N. Srinivasan and Subroto Roy ego-tussle but something else. Sahara didn’t pay BCCI the yearly instalment of Rs. 170 Crore arguing that the franchise price needs renegotiation. But then shares worth Rs. 150 Crores in the said defence company was done just weeks before BCCI encashed Sahara’s Bank Guarantee. Rs.1700 Crores was the cost of Pune Franchise – a losing deal the way Pune Warriors were going. Why not invest Rs. 1500 Crores in lucrative defence business as India is one of the world’s top defence spenders that is looking to modernise its military.
More on this to follow…
It’s not been a fortnight since actor and Bollywood star – Sanjay Dutt went to jail that we see two more B-Town folks on the wrong side of the law. Vindoo Dara Singh is in police custody for the murky IPL spot-fixing and betting case and the starlet Sana Khan – whose career hasn’t even taken off – is on the run.
Sana Khan has been declared absconding after she was charged with alleged attempted abduction of a 15-year-old girl for rejecting her cousin, Naved’s marriage proposal. Navi Mumbai Police have already arrested four persons – Sana’s cousin Naved Khan (22) and his three friends Kshitij Dubey (22) and Vismit Ambre (23) and a 17-year-old boy minor – in the case. Hunt is on to trace the 25-year-old actress.
Thanks to Salman Khan and Big Boss, Sana Khan got a role in Mental, a Sohail Khan movie starring Salman Khan. The movie is under production and is stalled now since Sana is on the run. I fail to understand why Bollywood walas are so callous about law??? Do they think that they are too influential or powerful that they are beyond law? NO WAY! Sanju Baba and Vindoo has learnt the hard way and now it is Sana’s turn.
Well Aishwarya Rai Bachchan finally had a fab-fashion season at Cannes this year. My favourite till now was the the black and white – shirt and skirt with a trail ensemble but when she turned up in a muted gold saree paired with a gold blouse, designed by Tarun Tahiliani for the amfAR Gala tonight, I must say she looked absolutely gorgeous.
The high-collared blouse was a brilliant detail that added to the look.
Cinema Against AIDS, held each year since 1993 during the Cannes Film Festival, is a world-renowned charitable fundraiser and arguably the most coveted ticket of the film festival. The 2013 event will feature “The Ultimate Gold Collection Fashion Show,” curated by Carine Roitfeld as a tribute to Dame Elizabeth Taylor, who was also the co-founder of amfAR. Forty top models will participate in a spectacular runway presentation of one-of-a-kind gold looks, which will also feature a range of gold jewelry from emerging and established designers.
The black-tie event is known and celebrated for its glittering guest list, its unpredictable live auction, and its unrivaled success in generating funds for amfAR’s lifesaving AIDS research programs. Since 1993 Cinema Against AIDS events around the world have raised more than $80 million.
Here we captured Indian couturier – Tarun Tahiliani backstage and also the preparations up to the Gala Gold Fashion Show. Tarun shares the ramp with the stalwarts of global fashion- Valentino, Tom Ford, Burberry, Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen and the likes. Cheers to that!

I was getting lot of queries from youngsters inclined in finding more about the Parsons Mumbai. Well folks all the info you need is finally addressed here by PARSONS Mumbai:
ISDI Parsons Mumbai
Submitted on 2013/05/16 at 5:44 PM
Dear interested students,
ISDI – Indian School Of Design & Innovation Parsons Mumbai is in collaboration with Parsons The New School for Design , New York. Our Undergraduate Diploma Program starts in July 2013 and Post Graduation Certificate Program starts in Sept 2013. Admissions are Open for Both and Entrance Exam Dates are 18th, 21st and 28th May. Kindly visit our website http://www.isdi.in to register online for the test or call us on +91 88********
Thank you ISDI Admissions Team
But let me narrate a very interesting episode that has got a lot to do with ISDI PARSONS Mumbai. The affiliation with Parsons New York was orchestrated by a Parson alma-mater – Radha Kapoor who is the owner of ISDI PARSONS Mumbai. Radha Kapoor is one of the three daughters of Rana Kapoor, the man at the helm of affairs at YES BANK.
Incidentally fashionscandal.com also did a piece on Radha Kapoor’s sibling…Rana Kapoor’s youngest daughter but since the piece was ‘not so charitable‘, Mr. Kapoor got very upset. Now typical of Indian richie-riches, he wanted to wipe me and fashionscandal.com out. He filed police complaints and yes cops are so prompt at acting on the behest of the Capitalist biggies that I was literally hounded. I stuck to my gun claiming that what I wrote was factually correct and did not take the article off. More harassment followed but then those are the risks I am willing to take for my readers. But eventually I succumbed when a very-very-very senior journalist, who is and has been an editor with couple of prestigious publications made a friendly request on behalf of Mr. Rana Kapoor to take the post off.
So I am pretty happy to be of some use to Rana Kapoor’s eldest daughter – Radha because they have come to fashionscandal.com to spread the news that ISDI PARSONS Mumbai is starting Undergraduate Diploma Program in July 2013 and Post Graduate Certificate Program in September 2013. Isn’t it a proud moment for fashionscandal.com???
What Goes Around, Comes Around!
Cannes 2013 is on and this year the festival will see the largest contingent from Bollywood as Cannes is celebrating 100 years of Indian Cinema. Bollywood stars who have already landed at the French Riviera are Amitabh Bachchan as the 12-Day Cannes Film Festival opened with the screening of The Great Gatsby, Vidya Balan who is part of the illustrious jury, the lovely Frieda Pinto and Sonam Kapoor who is there as one of the Brand Ambassadress for L’Oreal.
Cannes Film Festival is keenly watched by fashionistas to dwell over the style quotient of divas from the celluloid. Vidya Balan made three appearances, all in traditional Indian wear by Sabyasachi Mukherjee – one in a maroon lehenga (I particularly loved the simple Choli bereft of any gaudy embellishment), another in a lovely ivory saree paired with a brown blouse with gold embroidery on the shoulders and a final one in a peach coloured lehenga-styled in Mughal regality for the Gatsby screening. The final look was a little OTT for me.
Big B made a couple of appearances. The sporty/safari jacket that Bachchan donned was out of place. Rest of the Gatsby team were dressed up in greys and blacks. Bachchan’s striped blue Safari jacket and white pants and shoes did not compliment his natural style. And gawd that belt at the waist was a disaster. At The Great Gatsby screening Amitabh Bachchan was again the odd one out in his shimmering BLINGY jacket. Could have gone for a Bandhgala with sober embellishment if he wanted BLING.
Sonam Kapoor please apna Nath utaar do. (No pun intended! Nath Utaarna also means losing virginity, which I am sure Sonam’s done with.) Our stylish diva too opted for an off-white saree (Anamika I think) with a lattice work full-sleeve jacket for Gatsby screening but that huge nose ring was definitely an eye sore. Another appearance in a scalloped Anamika Khanna jacket with lattice work paired over high-waist pants was chic. She was also spotted with Frieda Pinto in a black and grey ensemble was nice too but I have my reservations over wether those gold danglers went with the look.
Oh yes Mallika Sherawat too was there at The Great Gatsby screening in an yellowish-orange sleeveless gown. Thank god there wasn’t any slits or sheerness or cleavage revealing elements in her ensemble.
There couldn’t be anything more offensive in fashion than the return of the ‘Platform Sandals’. Ladies are they really in vogue??? If my knowledge of fashion history is right I think it was the 70s – the era of bell-bottoms and floral prints – when the really weird platform shoes were the in-thing. Apparently they’ve been back for a while but seriously I can’t deal with it anymore.
The whole point of wearing high heels is to make your legs look long and slender, and platforms do no such thing. In fact they make your legs look weird and stumpy. Platforms definitely must be more comfy than stilettos or pumps but ladies they really look super Ugg.
Now look at these sexy pumps hand-painted by British artist Boyarde Messenger. He takes his cues from classic fine art paintings. These Arty Shoes are perfect for girls who know their Van Gogh’s from their Piet Mondrian’s and like to take art appreciation on their stride.
The unique arty heels are a Charlotte Olympia design called ‘Dolly’. Olympia enlisted the talents of Boyarde Messenger to create these special edition for Neiman Marcus and Art Basel Miami. The shoes feature extracts from paintings by Jackson Pollock, Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian and pop art legend Roy Lichtenstein.
Latest Bollywood entrant and star-daughter, Shraddha Kapoor recently had a fashion faux-pas moment. At a function, Shraddha wore a black sequined short dress and flesh-toned knickers. Couldn’t really understand the colour choice for the underwear. Wouldn’t black been the apt colour??? Anyway wearing contrast colour panty was a hidden fashion blunder on Shraddha Kapoor’s part but flashing them while sitting definitely was a blatant fashion faux-pas. I fail to understand why can’t they sit ‘propah’ while wearing a short dress.
My dearest Preity Zinta has been busy with IPL and is judiciously present at all the King’s XI Punjab’s matches. She relegiously dons custom-made Kings XI logoed tops and salwar-kameezs. But at one of the recent matches I discovered that PZ has let her belly grow. Must be relieved after PVR agreed to distribute her Ishq In Paris, Preity must be indulging in Punjab’s butter-chicken and dal-makhani. In the picture here PZ’s belly-bulge is very prominent. Poor girl wasn’t aware of the camera on her or else she would had taken a deep breath and sucked in her tummy.
Before media go all crazy about the red-carpet spotting on the grand steps of the Met for the Met Gala at New York tonight, let’s remember the reason it’s all happening: to benefit the Costume Institute’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibit, opening to the public on May 9 and goes on until August 14.
Judging by these just-released pictures, the exhibit looks like it’s going to be just as exciting as tonight’s big party. The exhibit looks at punk’s influence on haute couture and ready-to-wear and examines how designers have borrowed the movement’s iconic symbols like safety pins, studs, leather, and rips. The exhibit shows more than 100 designs, from original 1970s punk garments to recent fashion pieces.
Designers featured in the exhibit include Burberry’s Christopher Bailey, John Galliano, former Balenciaga designer Nicholas Ghesquiere, Karl Lagerfeld, Christopher Kane, Miuccia Prada, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Gianni Versace, Yohji Yamamoto, Helmut Lang, Hedi Slimane, and Vivienne Westwood. The exhibit’s galleries are dedicated to the different “heroes” who define the genre. Sid Vicious, for example, is represented in the D.I.Y. gallery, while Malcolm McClaren and Vivienne Westwood are the focus of another area.
Foremost for the uninitiated I should explain the term – ‘Jugaad’ or ‘Jugaadoo’. ‘Jugaad’ is basically manipulation and the person who indulges in ‘Jugaad’ – the ‘Jugaadoo’ in that sense is the manipulator. Delhi is the infamous capital of Jugaad. Everybody is a fixer and they can ‘Jugaad’ you a free VIP seat at IPL Matches, admission in top-notch schools and colleges, and so-on-and-so-forth. This is one of the reasons not many ticketed music shows happen in Delhi as 80% tickets are given out on Jugaad quota and the promoters hardly make any money.
Last week while traveling back from Mumbai to Delhi, I found one such top-notch Jugadoo. It is a well-know gentleman - VC Burman, the Chairman of Dabur Group. I was amazed to see a ‘Sarkari’ Identity Card hung from his neck and sneaked close to see what it was. To my utter surprise, the ID Card was that of ‘Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’. I wondered what VC Burman got to do with Civil Aviation since his company is into food products, Ayurvedic products, insurance (Aviva) and investments. Dabur Group has not even remotely got anything to do with civil avaiation and I am not aware of any expertise that VC Burman posess on security matters.
So why was VC Burman a Member of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security? To enjoy the privilege of sailing through security checks??? I don’t understand why men of such repute need to do ‘Jugaad’ for such trivial benefits. VC Burman is also the Honorary Consul General of Nicaragua, yet another ‘jugadoo’ position that Delhi big-shots clamour for.
Today the much-awaited Shootout At Wadala releases. Sanjay Gupta, the director and Ekta Kapoor, the producer has ensured everything to make this movie a Box Office grosser. Besides a bevy of stars including John Abraham playing the lead, there is Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Manoj Bajpayee, Ronit Roy and Tushaar Kapoor, the makers have roped in a star – Priyanka Chopra. a pornstar – Sunny Leone and a sidey – Sophie Choudry too to add to the titillation factor to woo the crowd.
Priyanka Chopra dances to Babli Badmaash dressed in a leather cutout pantsuit and some heavy duty eye makeup. She is probably the most conservatively dressed item girl in the movie while Sunny Leone and Sophie Choudry go all out to titillate. Leone is seen in a low-cut blouse revealing much of her cleavage and the mound and a lehenga to up the sexy quotient in the Laila number.
I was rather shocked to see the images of pop-star Lady Gaga on a LV wheelchair in Chicago the past week. Gaga has been confined to a wheelchair since February this year, when she suffered a labral tear in her hip that caused her to abandon the remaining U.S. dates of her Born This Way Ball tour.
By the way Lady Gaga earlier spun around in a custom 24-carat-gold Mordekai wheelchair designed by Ken Borochov.
Woh…I am amazed by things celebrities do to stand-out and how the luxury brands are there to cater to all their needs. I am sure next time a Bollywood star breaks a leg or a hip, he/she will not be caught dead in a regular wheelchair or crutches!
As per highly placed sources, Anil Agarwal of Vedanta has picked up majority stake in a cash-strapped media house. The billionaire NRI hasn’t been deterred by the Supreme Court’s decision on leaving the onus on the natives and tribals on handling their land to industry, which affected Agarwal’s ambitious Odisha project.
Anil Agarwal has been on an investing spree in India and must have realised that owning controlling stakes in a media conglomerate would be a smart investment to mobilise public opinion. As per sources, the cash-strapped media house was bleeding and was on the look out for a buyer. The conglomerate had earlier divested considerable stake to another industrial house.
So if the news of Anil Agarwal of Vedanta buying into this mega Media House is true, it would be interesting to see how Agarwal and the other big stake holder work in tandem in running the business.
Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz spoke unabashedly about pubic hair – the 70s style bush on the Graham Norton Show. She was referring to a friend’s penchant for keeping a 70s style bush down there and gave a vivid description of how the bush swayed like seaweed when the friend dipped herself in the bathtub.
Gossip mill is speculating that Cameron is talking about Gwyneth Paltrow who said in an interview on Ellen TV that she likes it 70s style down there. She and Ellen were talking about the sheer dress at the premiere of Iron Man 3. As you know, she didn’t wear underwear. Which apparently required an emergency razor situation because, as she explained, “I work a 70s vibe, if you know what I mean”. So basically, in order to get into the dress, she needed to groom the GOOP. Here’s the video link:
Talking about a girlfriend…
Who is married…
“Who is obsessed with having a 70s bush”. And she loves it when it waves around in the bathtub like “seaweed”.
Apparently this friend of Cameron’s refuses to trim it so one day, all their friends grabbed her from the tub and took a pair of scissors and a comb and took care of it for her.
The video link of Cameron on Graham Norton Show is here. The section on ’70s style bush’ start at 20:30:
The ‘Desperate B-Town Gals‘ have made stripping-down a ploy to stay relevant in Bollywood. You all had seen Ameesha Patel in those garters to announce the launch of her production house’s first film. She looked hideous rather than sexy.
You must have also seen Sherlyn Chopra doing the skin-show thingy for her MTV Splitsville show. But with Sherlyn showing skin is normal; seeing her clothed would be abnormal though. Here is the link to a video promo of her’s: http://www.youtube.com/embed/NjWge47VYRA?rel=0
Actor Rajesh Khanna was given the PADMA BHUSAN Award posthumously, which was received by Dimple Kapadia while the proud daughters Twinkle and Rinkie Khanna applauded sitting amongst the crowd. Actor Nana Patekar too was there to receive the PADMA SHRI Award from the President.
The Prime Minister of India – Manmohan Singh, his wife Gursharan Kaur and Congress President Sonia Gandhi graced the occasion too. Sonia Gandhi was seen in an animated conversation with Lt. Governor Tejinder Khanna. There’s no doubt they must be talking about the henous rape of the 5 Year old girl ‘Laadli’ and how to deal with this monster called ‘Rape’.
Wonder why the female hostesses on ‘Extraa Innings’ are changed every year while the male ones are there season after season. Yet another case of ‘gender inequality’ or as a politician, rather our Coal Minister said some time back – “women ‘purani ho jaati hai’ with passage of time”??? I also wonder why ‘Extraa Innings’ sign-on women with funny accents??? Rochelle Rao and Karishma Kotak have firangi accents.
Rochelle Rao has beaten Karishma Kotak hollow in fan-following and it seems the commentators, cricketers and the team staff, they have all got the hots for her. But this Chennai hottie has got her head on her shoulder and focussed on bigger things in life like the Miss International pageant and Bollywood. But a cuckoo told me that Rochelle and Virat Kohli have a great chemistry going. Karishma Kotak whose claim-to-fame is Bigg Boss is a loud-mouth. She went about town bragging that she is in Sohail Khan’s next movie opposite Salman Khan, which was vehemently denied by Sohail and then led the tabloids guessing that she is having a thing with her Bigg Boss co-contestant Vishal. No cricketer is taking the chance of getting close to madam Kotak as they fear that she will leak it to the press. They are happy with the Cheer-Leaders!
After Match parties are going on though Rajeev Shukla shouts from the roof-top that parties are not a part of IPL. Vijay Mallya and his Signature after match parties are on every night. Yes the party starts with a fashion show, which is nothing but an excuse to show legs. Why Rina Dhaka had to be part of such shows? Why Rina why??? Models make mega bucks so it’s justified but designers don’t get a penny.
Fashionscandal.com had earlier posted about Vijay Mallya’s son – Siddharth Mallya’s desire to enter movies. Sid did an acting course in Los Angeles and as per sources might even make his debut in B-Grade Hollywood movie producer – Ashok Amritraj’s production. But I was taken aback to see Sid Mallya with King of Porn Movies, Jeremy Ron. Don’t tell me Sid that you are considering a career in Adult Movies.
What’s happening guys??? Sometime back we posted about Katrina Kaif and her sister hobnobbing with yet another Porn Star turned Porn Movie Producer – Terry Stephens. You can read that post here: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-1fQ
Post the horrific Nirbhaya rape and murder incident in December 2012, Delhi’s nightlife was severely clamped down. All nightclubs, bars and lounges are suppose to shutdown by 1am. In fact cops and beat police literally walk into these places and ensure the place is empty. At times the cops directly order customers to leave. It is totally unfair. I don’t subscribe to this policy adopted by Delhi Police post Nirbhaya Rape Incident. The number of policemen they waste in ensuring that nightspots are shut should ideally patrol the streets where probably the real threat is. But who can argue with the cops and their archaic mindset. The business of clubs, bars and lounges have been badly affected.
But then we have few who are great at dodging the law. Few clubs have created a ‘Private Room’ for their high-spenders. The club shuts at the stipulated 12:45 am but the special guests and high spenders are discreetly moved into the ‘Private Room’ where the party continues till dawn. The ‘Private Room’ has a separate DJ, good sound-proofing, separate bar and even a washroom. So when cops come snooping, they will find no action at the club.
The nightclub at The Lalit – Kitty Su was the first one to carry on the clandestine after-party at the ‘Private Room’ and has found LAP resorting to similar tactic. No-doubt shutting nightspots at 12:45 am is a dumb idea but dumbber is the fact that the police aren’t aware of these after-parties at ‘Private Rooms’ hidden within the clubs. Or is it that the cops turn a blind-eye for reasons well known???
PS: The images in this post are only for ‘representation purpose’!
Hotelier Vikram Chatwal, the ex husband of Delhi socialite – Priya Sachdev was arrested on 2nd April at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport with an arsenal of drugs hidden on his person, in his crotch and in his bag. Chatwal’s association with drugs in nothing new. He was also at a drug rehab hospital in Mumbai few years back and many US Tabloids have many a times reported Chatwal and his BFF – Lindsay Lohan as coke-buddies.
Vikram Chatwal was booked on one count of trafficking (6 grams of heroin) and seven counts of possession … including cocaine, buprenorphine (an opioid), clonazepam (a sedative), alprazolam (Xanax) and lorazepam (muscle relaxants), ketamine (a horse tranquilizer) and weed.
According to the police report, Chatwal admitted to cops that he illegally purchased and possessed the drugs.
Woh…what’s happened to Deepika Padukone? Where did the washboard-ab and the toned body disappear? I mean I was aghast to see Deepika Padukone in her new voluptuous form at the IPL 6 opening ceremony. Even last night post KKR’s win over DD at IPL 6 opening match, Deepika’s thighs looked big when she walked along with Shahrukh Khan in the stadium. Has she put on bulk for Chennai Express? Down-south actresses with meat are preferred. They like their leading ladies to be buxom and bootilicious and yes they have a thing for thunderous-thighs.
Katrina Kaif looked pretty toned though but hey the pleasant surprise came from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In this picture taken after AB Baby and Ash landed at Vancouver for TOIFA she looks pretty slim.
The term – ‘Fashion Show’ or Fashion Week’ has been most ill-used in India. I have written enough on the subject – on how India has more ‘fashion weeks’ in India than the sum total of fashion weeks held in Fashion Capitals of New York, Paris, Milan and London. In India we had a fashion week named after an individual – Prasad Bidapa Fashion Week. You can read it here in my earlier post - The Term – ‘Fashion Week’ Has Become A Joke: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-1gb
Recently we had a designer taking a bow twice during his show and who could it be but Manish Malhotra. Then we had a ‘Indian Fashion Summit’ where fashion designers, choreographers and fashion scribes were awarded but surprisingly I had never heard of the winners in my 15-years plus career as a fashion journalist.
And now we have a gentleman who has introduced the dirty-trick of horse-trading in fashion. I though horse-trading happened only in politics. Vijay Singh who got into fashion just because his wife – Jyotsna Tiwari was never approved by the jury at FDCI shows. He started ‘Bridal Week’ in Mumbai. This year he is doing the ‘Bridal Week’ in Delhi and timed it just before the Delhi Couture Week organised by FDCI. Singh always had an axe to grind with FDCI. Anyway the designers are poached with huge sums of money courtesy two big sponsors that back the Bridal Week. Have you ever heard anywhere in the world of a designer getting paid to do a fashion show? It happens only in India! Vijay Singh has poached the popular designers and the five biggies of Indian Fashion Fraternity are offered an average of Rupees 40 Lakhs to just participate in the Bridal Week.
No doubt the Delhi government levies Entertainment Tax on Fashion Shows. When organisors like Vijay Singh pay hefty amounts to designers to show their collection, it is something like ‘performance fee’ that showbiz people charge. Hence government is right in levying Entertainment Tax because these events no way help in establishing that a fashion show is a ‘Trade Show’.
Don’t most self-proclaimed fashionistas spend hours in front of the mirror? More so the ones who hire PR to brand themselves as Divas and seek invitation to parties? Well here is one such case – Aijesh Oberoi who claims to be a fashion designer (But then who isn’t?). These days I get to see her pretty often on ‘Page Trash’, oops -’Page 3′.
Aijesh Oberoi was lately snapped at some random do where she happily posed for the paparazzi in her fashionable clothes and ignored the fact that her top was short for the low-slung pants she wore, making her belly peek out. I am sure it is not a deliberate attempt to give a sneak-peek of the belly or the latest fad. If it was, then madam Oberoi should have had done something about the ungainly stretch marks. Have a look for yourself.
Dear divas, wearing fancy labels doesn’t make you fashionable. Wearing clothes that compliment your body sure does!
BISHI- a songstress, a performer and a fashionista is taking London by the storm. “The New British Diva” The New York Times stated! She is a friend of mine who I met some years back when she periodically visited India to learn Sitar from the maestro – Ravi Shankar. Bishi aka Bishnupriya Bhattacharya is a fashionista too and have been extensively shot by lensman Nick Knight and last year Vogue -Italia released her album.
Here is the video of a Bishi’s rendition of one of Rabindranath Tagore’s song with her mother – Susmita Bhattacharya.
Blessings for the road ahead from my mother and I!
I’d like to wish you a wonderful new year with this beautiful song and visual treat from my mum, my team and myself
Gram Chara is a reworking of a well known poem by Bengali poet and novelist Rabindranath Tagore, set for our voices and strings by Neil Kaczor & produced by Matthew Hardern (who also directed and produced the video). The main strings are played by The Ligetti Quartet whilst the solo viola da gamba is played by Liam Byrne.
I grew up hearing my mum (Susmita Bhattacharya) sing this as a lullaby and in performance during her career as a classical singer.
She has studied the Tagore tradition throughout her life and 2013 is an important celebration for the man regarded by many as the greatest writer in modern Indian literature. 100 years ago Rabindranath Tagore became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
He was an accomplished artist, environmentalist, rural reconstructionist, political thinker and philosopher; as an educationist he founded the International University, Visva-Bharati. His compositions were chosen by two nations as national anthems; the Republic of India’s Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh’s Amar Shonar Bangla; he even established a new dance form called Rabindra Nritya.
Tagore had strong links with Scotland after establishing a close friendship with pioneering Scottish town planner Patrick Geddes and his grandfather Dwarkanath Tagore was honoured with the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh in 1845.
The string arrangement echoes with Scottish themes that pay respect to this historic International communion of art, literature and humanity.
Beguiles my mind the earthly road
Beyond the village it does spread
I know not for whom my mind thrusts
With arms languishing in those dusts
Pulling at my feet the road drags me out
To an obscure end I know nothing about
In which turning in the road
Will I find the mother lode?
Where some new person I will befriend
I can’t fathom where it will end
Lots of love
Since Bollywood Diva – Kareena Kapoor signed on to endorse the Lakme Absolute range of colour cosmetics, she has been one of the shiniest factor for Lakme Fashion Week (LFW), held bi-annually in Mumbai. If I recall right – since Bebo signed-up with Lakme, she has been the show-stopper for two grand finale shows – Manish Malhotra’s Summer/Resort 2012 and Kallol Datta and Pankaj & Nidhi’s Winter/Festive 2012. Tonite Kareena Kapoor will be there as a show-stopper for talented designer – Namrata Joshipura’s grand finale show.
Fortunately, including this season, it has been Delhi Designers who had been doing Lakme Fashion Week’s Grand Finale shows. Kareena Kapoor as a show-stopper gives a major boost to the Delhi based designers amongst Bollywood’s fashionistas. We had seen that for Pankaj & Nidhi. But Joshipura is already popular amongst B-Town actresses and star wives. Still Bebo’s tadka is always welcome. Wadddyyyaaa Say???
Kareena Kapoor in a Manish Malhotra gown a year back was a disaster. The outfit of that kind you see at passing-out shows of students from nondescript fashion schools. The following season, Bebo wore a Kallol Datta printed shirt-dress. Very ‘Kallol’ but too low on ‘glam’ for somebody like Kareena. Pankaj & Nidhi’s tassled leather number got mired in controversy so I will skip commenting on it. But yeah tonite I Kareena Kapoor did dazzle in Namrata Joshipura’s candy-floss colour scheme. But how I wished Bebo would had worn the sexy orange flared mini skirt (the one she is wearing in the Top-Right picture) instead of the neon pink pleated palazzos that makes her look stunted. But then I have heard that Kareena is very difficult to deal and a designer may not always get her to wear what they would had preferred.
Well taking a nap in a glass box in a museum is hard to be conceived as art but when Tilda Swinton does it, it’s an ART! Tilda Swinton has currently taken up residency sleeping at MoMA. It’s part of an unannounced, surprise performance piece called “The Maybe” that will be taking place on random days all year. A MoMA source said, “Museum staff doesn’t know she’s coming until the day of, but she’s here today. She’ll be there the whole day. All that’s in the box is cushions and a water jug.”
“Tilda Swinton will be doing unannounced, random performance art pieces sleeping in a glass box in the museum,” the source added. “Today is the first performance. Each performance lasts the whole day the museum is open.” Swinton and her box are located near the ticket collectors today, but the box may be in different locations at other performances.
“The Maybe” was first performed in London in 1995 at the Serpentine Gallery; Swinton conceived the performance piece, and asked artist Cornelia Parker to collaborate on the installation. Swinton later re-performed the piece in the Museo Barracco in Rome. Here’s what the museum has to say about the piece: An integral part of The Maybe’s incarnation at MoMA in 2013 is that there is no published schedule for its appearance, no artist’s statement released, no no museum statement beyond this brief context, no public profile or image issued. Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real—shared—time: now we see it, now we don’t.
If 2012 was a great year for the Indian Movie Industry aka Bollywood, what with films setting new Box Office records by grossing over Rs.100 Crores, Rs. 200 Crores and out-of-the-box movies like Barfi, Kahani and Gangs of Wasseypur not only getting critical acclaim but turning to be a hit at the Box Office too.
But 2013 has started on a somber note for Bollywood. Sanjay Dutt was convicted by Supreme Court in the 1993 Mumbai Blast Case and was sentenced to 5-years imprisonment. Today the age-old Black-Buck case in Jodhpur that had indicted Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Sonali Bendre and Tabu will be heard in the court and possible judgement would be pronounced. Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case is still sub-judice and he has a new case to deal with where fishermen have accused Salman Khan and his bodyguards of manhandling, threatening and causing damage to property. This small fishermen’s colony is just opposite the new bungalow that Sallu bhai has purchased.
Then we have Preity Zinta’s run-in with the Enforcement Directorate who recently probed her on the source of funds that she had invested in her IPL Team. Of course there are zillion of unverified reports of fimstars’ run-in with the law. Like recently it was reported that Saif Ali Khan manhandled a CISF man who asked him to vacate the VIP Lounge at the Lucknow Airport or Bipasha Basu being stopped at the Customs for carrying in undeclared valuables…
I think as we celebrate the 100 years of Indian Cinema, all the pending cases against our film stars should come to conclusion. It would be ideal way to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema.
The fate of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, who is facing six-year jail term for possessing illegal arm, as well as 100 people, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, would be determined by Supreme Court today – 21st March 2013.
A Bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan will pass its verdict on appeals filed by Dutt against his conviction and sentence under the Arms Act. Out of the total 100 convicts in the blasts case, 12 were awarded death penalty while 20 others were sentenced to life term by a TADA court in Mumbai in 2007. Others were handed out varying jail terms. As per reliable sources – the film star will not be reprieved by the Supreme Court.
Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and his brother Ayub Memon, alleged to be the main conspirators of the blasts, were declared as proclaimed offenders.
A total of 257 persons were killed and 713 others injured when a series 13 coordinated explosions shattered the metropolis on March 12, 1993. Property worth Rs 28 crore was destroyed in the explosions in which RDX was used for the first time in the country. Most of the 100 convicts had filed appeals in the Supreme Court.
Manish Arora showcased his Fall-Winter 2013 Collection that he showed at the Paris Fashion Week on 28th February at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week F/W 2013 Grand Finale too. The set at the finale show was grander, the models were from India and some amazing Trance music played on Live. Sonam Kapoor was their in the audience dressed in a Manish Arora saree.
Designer Manish Arora showcased his Ready-To-Wear (RTW) Fall-Winter 2013 collection at the Paris Fashion Week on 28th February and yes, the collection was typical ‘Manish Arora’. However I felt that he cramped in too many stories or fashion elements in his 45-pieces collection.
There were multiple looks cramped in: one emphasizing psychedelic geometric digital prints, second one that hewed to the very Indian colors of pink and yellow and featured Deco black crystal embroidery, and then a sedate look in textural navy and black that Arora had decorated with various kinds of jewel-like embellishment.
In addition to that, there was a knitwear category, a first time use of knits by Manish that had navy Lurex pieces worn with piles of gold jewelry. The textural black and navy looks were probably the best part of Manish Arora’s Fall 2013 collection. The trim skirts and tops with multicolor stones were nice too.
By the way Manish Arora’s Fall-Winter 2013 RTW collection was inspired by the Burning Man festival in Nevada.
A new model from Bangalore – Archana Akil Kumar -discovered by photographer Rohit Chawla is making her debut on the ramp at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) fall-winter 2013. Her face, her body, her complexion and most importantly her attitude towards work has caught our attention instantaneously. She reminds us of Laxmi Menon who went global – was featured on the cover of American Vogue and walked the ramp at New York Fashion Week & Paris Fashion Week. Laxmi had a mentor in Prabuddha Dasgupta.
Way to go girl!
The Fall-Winter 2013 of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) kicks-off today. Pray that the designers show us real fall-winter clothes and not hide behind the overused excuse that most of India hardly has seasons or winter for that matter. If that’s the case, then opt out of fall-winter showings please.
The Day 1 of WLIFW F-W 2013 has an interesting line-up. I am looking forward to Masaba’s debut collection for Satya Paul. The epic brand has first time out-sourced a creative director, post Puneet Nanda’s exit from Satya Paul. But then Pallavi, assistant designer is an old war-horse at Satya Paul with 15 years experience and Masaba is good with prints, which is Satya Paul’s forte. Guess the brand – Satya Paul’s core philosophy would be intact.
Kanika Saluja looks like will present her gold metal studded dresses that she showed sometime back at a soiree. Anupama Dayal too sticking to her forte of interesting textile and vibrant colours in her ‘Ishq-e-Dilli’ collection. Looking forward to it. Vineet Bahl’s last fall-winter collection was great and I am looking forward to his show too. But I believe this time Vineet Bahl is showcasing Indian wear.
And of course I am anxiously looking forward to the last two shows of Day 1 – Pankaj & Nidhi and Namrata Joshipura. Love their work as the raise the bar every season, year after year. Don’t know much about Pankaj & Nidhi’s collection (I like the ‘surprise’ element of a collection.) but have a feeling that Namrata Joshipura is going ‘Monochromatic’. Can’t wait to feast the eyes on them!
Legendary film-maker – Steven Spielberg is visiting India on Anil Ambani’s invitation. Ambani and Spielberg’s relationship is now a couple of years old since his company, Reliance Entertainment invested in Spielberg’s company, Dreamworks. Ambanis have been regulars at the Oscars now. They were seen with Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Fields of Lincoln, which Reliance Entertainment co-produced with Dreamworks. Last night Reliance Entertainment hosted a talk show – “Steven Spielberg in conversation with Amitabh Bachchan”. Accompanying Spielberg is Dreamworks’ CEO & Co-Chairman, Stacey Snider.
Amitabh Bachchan twitted about Spielberg, “the guest in conversation .. simple, honest and with immense candor ..”. Post the conversation Big B twitted,“ …and then after its all over .. a quiet dinner amongst the four of us …”
Would love to see this conversation. Any idea when it’s going to be aired???
Kate Moss has reportedly agreed to be on the Cover as well as on the center-spread of Playboy’s January 2014 issue. It’s going to be the iconic porn magazine’s 60th anniversary issue. But then somehow it isn’t much of an excitement for many. Wondering why??? Well Kate Moss has posed in the buff several times. She has done so many topless shoots that legendary a fashion scribe once most aptly said, “She’s seen Moss’s boobs so many times, she could pick them out of an anonymous lineup.”
Playboy won’t show anything NEW that Kate Moss hasn’t shown earlier! She posed nude for Pirelli Calendar and most recently she did a nude shoot for a fashion magazine where she displayed her pubes too. Here are the links to those posts on fashionscandal.com: March 02, 2012 - Stars Stripping For Fashion Magazines: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-Rd
January 30, 2013 - Line Between Porn & Fashion Blurring: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-1hd
As per sources Kate Moss will be shot for the Playboy cover by Mert and Marcus this week in London. (Wow this guys work almost a year in advance for their issues!) W‘s Alex White is said to be styling the shoot.
First lady Michelle Obama, bowed her head in a moment of silence, as Nirbhaya, the courageous 23-year-old victim of a brutal gang rape on a moving bus in Delhi was posthumously honored with the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award at the State Department in Washington.
At the State Department presentation ceremony on International Women’s Day, John Kerry, the Secretary of State praised the determination and courage of Nirbhaya describing her as a brave woman whose life was snuffed out in a brutal assault
“For millions of Indian women, her personal ordeal, perseverance to fight for justice, and her family’s continued bravery is helping to lift the stigma and vulnerability that drive violence against women,” said Michelle Obama in her official statement.
As United States celebrated International Women’s Day by honouring Nirbhaya by posthumously bestowing her with the ‘Woman of Courage’ Award, Delhi and Mumbai ladies celebrated the day with champagne-brunches, pampering spa treatments and make over sessions!
I have been thinking about writing on the ‘Rape’ issue and the male psyche for quiet some time now but somehow had been postponing. Just a day back a close friend who was really disturbed about reading about more rapes in the newspaper suggested I write on the issue and shared her experience too. Today being the Women’s Day, I thought I will write about Indian Men and their psyche and Rape.
Foremost we must accept that rape is not something that happens in lower strata of the society. It is there in so-called high society too. Upbringing of a boy, the way his father, uncle or brother treats women are dominant factors that shape up a man. I will write about my experiences. Yes I was part of the group in high-school that passed nasty comments on girls. I may not have uttered the remarks but I was part of them and made no attempt to dissuade the guys indulging in it. I passively participated in the so-called ‘eve-teasing’. But as I grew and matured, I definitely made it a point to snub the guy passing lewd remarks on women at work place or at night-outs.
The so-called high society men are as lecherous and lustful as that bus driver and his friends that raped and killed Nirbhaya. I have seen them and heard them at nightclubs and lounges. Once few drinks are down the lust gets ignited and all they do is eye girls whom they can possibly bed. Why do you think the city’s clubs and lounges do ‘Expat – Nite’? Just for the fact that it will attract Desi men in droves. Yes Indian men think a ‘Gori’ or a ‘Firang’ girl is easy game. But truth is that they aren’t. I have often spotted a ‘firang’ slapping a guy and creating a scene when he tries to grope her or indecently touch her. Indian girls shy away from this but they shouldn’t.
We may complain about the mindset of our cops who still believe that a girl in short-dress is inviting rape. But what about our mindset? Isn’t it the same? You see an unaccompanied single girl or a group of girls dressed in ‘short-dresses’ and having a good-time in a club, invariably you’ll see hordes of men hovering around. Often I have overheard – “saali akele naach rahi hai; game hai”.
Married men are the worst. I don’t know why they are such Thadkis? Even if they are, why can’t they satiate it at home or if the wives are leaving them dry, they can easily take a trip to Bangkok. Undeniably the most lecherous men of Delhi’s high-society are married. Moment they get some space from their wives or say the wife is out-of-town, these men go berserk. And they think money can woo girls. I wanted to do a list of Delhi’s Top Lecherous Men around 2012 Year-End but I gave it a miss because of the horrible Nirbhaya gangrape incident and the prevalent mood then.
Changes in law, sensitising of cops can only achieve little. It’s on US MEN to effect the change. If next time you are around men passing lewd remarks on women, make it a point to stop them. If you see a guy bothering a girl in a club, be MAN enough to stop that thadki and yes make your son(s) respect women. I am not sermonising, I have been practising too. In February while walking back home from a late-night movie with a female friend, I heard a bunch of guys sitting in a car pass a disgusting remark – “Darling Aa Jaa Mere L**D Pe Baith Jaa.” I walked ahead, ensured that my friend was in safe distance and then went back to the guys in the car and took their photos with my phone, the photo of the car’s number plate and went back. While returning after dropping my friend, these guys (3 of them) roughed me up and tried to get my phone but I fought back and called the cops. They were taken in. So what if I get a blow on my face or get roughed-up? It’s a small price for teaching those guys a lesson for passing atrociously lewd remarks on a female friend.
Each of us do this little bit and things will change for sure!
Raja Bhaiya, the MLA from Kunda, UP who was till recently the Food & Civil Supplies Minister in Akhilesh Yadav’s cabinet is in news mostly for the wrong reasons. This time he is hogging the limelight for conspirating the brutal murder of Kunda DSP. Raja Bhaiya is notoriously famous; a sort of an enigma who has been winning election after election – 5 in a row as an independent candidate. For most he is a DON but for many he is a DAYAVAN.
Way back in August 2004 when I was with the Times of India/Delhi Times, I did an interview of Kunwar Raghuraj Pratap Singh a.k.a Raja Bhaiya. I asked him about his infamous pond full of alligators where he throws people who err against him, his Dabanggai when he goes horse-riding every morning, his love for guns and being the Gabbar Singh of UP, the days spent in jail and his ‘Princely’ lifestyle. In a frank, openhearted chat, Raja Bhaiya tells all – “I am just an ordinary guy”! (Mind you, this is not my opinion of Raja Bhaiya.)
- I was born in the family of Talukdars of Awadh in a small town of UP, Pratapgrah on 31stOctober 1969. From the days of royalty, till date, even in free India, people respectfully address my father as Raja Sahab, Raja Udai Pratap Singh. I was the only son of my parents but that doesn’t mean that I had the liberty of getting pampered and spoilt. My father is a strict disciplinarian. I respect him a lot but like in old families, father is that figure who is little feared too. So automatically I was more close to my mother. With my mother, I could demand things and expect to be pampered.
- Politics was never pre-planned career option for me. I was always interested in farming and enjoyed the simple life of my village, Kunda in Pratapgarh. It was on sheer demand of people of Kunda that I got into politics. Since my father use to meet the people every morning to hear their problems and settle minor disputes, every morning almost the entire village used to turn up at the house, which was again misquoted as Durbar. In one such meeting, the people insisted on me fighting for the MLA seat from Kunda and that’s how I got into politics.
- 1n 1993 state elections, I was elected MLA from Kunda. So strong was the support of people that even the nearest candidate lost by such a margin that his guarantee money got confiscated. It was an overwhelming victory and since then, my detractors have managed to create an anti-image, which unfortunately media laps up immediately. What Darbar do we hold? My father sits on a charpoy and I stand by his side. Have you seen a Darbar where a Raja sahab is sitting without his throne? It’s all loose talk.
- “Raja Bhaiya” is a name given by people out of love. I myself do not believe in Royalty in this democratic country. Every neighbourhood in India has some body by the name of Raja. Govinda even starred in a movie called ‘Raja Bhaiya’. It is a total misconception that I rule Kunda as a prince or something. I love horse riding and since childhood days, there were horses in my house. What is wrong if I go horse riding in the morning? When here people play polo on horseback, then they are cheered. When Ramaswamy’s horses win a jackpot, he is raved. But when ‘Raja Bhaiya’ rides on his horse in the morning, he is a scrupulous, dominating man behaving as a feudal lord. What does it show? It shows vengeful behaviour on part of detractors to paint a wrong picture of me.
- I am an amateur shooter and also a registered member of National Rifle Association of India. Hence, I often practice shooting with my rifle. Me, holding a rifle made a great photo opportunity for my detractors and promptly and skillfully they splashed it in various media to brand me as if I am some Gabbar Singh. It only exposes their weakness and insecurity. I just laugh it off.
- Mayawati’s regime in UP has been the state’s darkest era. The period has been worse than the Emergency period. Literally all civil rights were suspended with POTA. Since I supported Kalyan Singh’s government when Mayawati withdrew her support, I became her prime target. In her tenure I was booked under POTA for dacoity of 200 mud-bricks and dacoity of kitchen utensils. One side, they paint me as a Prince with lavish lifestyle and on the other, frame me for dacoity of bricks and utensils. You can very well understand the picture.
- My days in jail were really painful. For ten months I was kept in solitary confinement in a room with a tin roof. There was not even a fan. In summer it would be like a furnace. I knew what they wanted to achieve but I was strong to bear that torture. I found my strength and peace from reading Ram Charit Manas and Geeta during these inhuman torturous months. Eventually, the sinner fades away. When Mayawati’s government fell, I was taken out of that solitary confinement. I gainfully utilised my days in jail by reading and keeping my mind healthy. In fact, I introduced volleyball in the jail and got a quality diversion for the prisoners. Seven months later from the day Mulayam Singh took on as the CM of UP, I was released. This period has also showed me who are my real friends and who aren’t.
- Like in every old household in rural India, we too have a pond. I was surprised one day to read somewhere that the pond is full of alligators and “Kunwar sahab throws people who err against him”. Strange stories. Do you think Mayawati, who could build a corridor on Yamuna, couldn’t have sucked the water out of the pond and make a video of the menacing alligators and beam it on all the TV channels? I laugh at these stories as it only exposes one’s immaturity.
- I am a simple man. I have no great political ambition. Till date I contest as an Independent candidate because all I want is to serve my native land. I don’t nurture an ambition to cross over to national politics and contest for an MP’s seat. I am happy with the quiet life of Pratapgarh. I have a happy family – my wife, two sons and two daughters. For entertainment or relaxation, there is nothing like my morning horse-ride and sometimes I go with my family to watch a movie. After a long time, I saw a movie – Troy because my children really insisted. I am no Raja, no Prince… am just an ordinary guy whom people address as Raja Bhaiya…people who matter to me has faith on me, rest, I don’t care. One is always invited to come to my village in Kunda and attend my inter-action session with people, the so called Durbar, fish in my pond where all you’ll catch is small fishes and feel free to take a dip, no alligator is going to grab you and can even go horse-riding in the morning to enjoy the fresh air of dawn. Welcome to Kunda!
Anne Hathaway wore a pink Prada that was majorly criticised as a ‘disater’ by Hollywood’s fashion police. But then Anne had to do a last minute change an opt for the Prada number that she wore for the Oscars. She was supposed to wear a specially-made Valentino gown to the Oscars. Anne had learned the night before the Oscars that Amanda Seyfried was going to be wearing an Alexander McQueen gown that resembled her Valentino.
The inside details of Anne Hathaway’s dress-drama was revealed by US Weekly:
“US Weekly has brand-new details on what went down between Les Miserables costars Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried the day before the Academy Awards — and caused a panicked Hathaway to ditch her planned Valentino gown in favor of a Prada creation for her Oscar-winning night.
An insider close to the situation tells US Weekly that Hathaway learned during an Oscar rehearsal at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 22 that Seyfried planned to wear a dress notably similar to hers to the ceremony. After Hathaway asked about her pal’s dress, Seyfried graciously shared an iPhone snap of the Alexander McQueen creation.”
It’s not ANNE’s fault nor is it Valentino’s fault that Amanda Seyfried wore a Sarah Burton/McQueen gown, which was so strikingly similar. But I just get the feeling that Anne was and is so incredible Nautanki Saali that when one part of her Oscar strategy faltered (the dress!), it felt like her whole world was crashing down. Here’s what I don’t get though – why did Anne end up picking that terrible Prada? Surely she had better back-up options than that?
Yesterday The Huffington Post carried an article on Elizabeth Taylor’s style evolution in Huff Post Style section:
Here is the link to the article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/
What I am thrilled about is that Huff Post has mentioned a post I put on fashionscandal.com in June 2011 – ‘The Seven Year Itch’. Huff Post has linked fashionscandal.com post in their story. Here is the excerpt from Huff Post’s story - Her reinvention reached its pinnacle in her role as Maggie in 1958′s “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.” (Why the image of Taylor, clad in a silk nightgown and resting on her bed, isn’t as iconic as Marilyn Monroe’s “The Seven Year Itch” white dress scene is almost criminal.)
Here is the link to my post: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-xd
I am grateful to The Huffington Post for giving due credit to FS. Something that Indian media has often deprived me of…
Sexy and sultry actress – Chitrangada Singh has finally ended her marriage with ace golfer Jyoti Randhawa. Their’s was never a smooth-sailing marital life. After making her film debut – Hazaaron Khwaise Aisi, Chitrangada was literally forced to go into a long hibernation as hubby Jyoti didn’t like her being linked with other men, especially film-maker Sudhir Mishra.
However Chitrangada Singh made her comeback into Bollywood and managed to balance home and work and shuttling between Delhi and Mumbai. Today her hands are full and is doing well in Bollywood. After Inkaar with Arjun Rampal, Chitrangada will be seen in I, Me Aur Main with John Abraham.
As per sources, Chitrangada has moved out of their Gurgaon house and the marriage is over. On second thoughts – this news comes just before the release of I, Me Aur Main??? But my sources say that this is not a publicity gimmick.
Preity Zinta may be missing from Bollywood but was spotted at Milan Fashion Week last night. Is she going the ‘Sonam Kapoor’ way??? Well PZ was with Manav Gangwani, designer cum luxury biz (Infinite Luxury) entrepreneur at the Roberto Cavalli show.
Dressed in a jacket cinched at the waist over a slit-skirt, Preity Zinta looked chic. In the photograph that was taken outside Cavalli show the other girl with Manav Gangwani and Preity Zinta is Simrin Choudrie in a fur coat. The trio were heading for the Pucci show next.
So will it be ‘Fashionista in Milan’ by Preity Zinta after ‘Ishq in Paris’??? By the way what happened to ‘Ishq in Paris’? Any news about it guys???

Versace entered India with a franchise agreement with Sehgal Brothers. But the marriage did not last long and in November 2012 Versace terminated its contract with Sehgal Brothers. The arrangement soured because Sehgals couldn’t live-up to the terms of their agreement with Versace. In fact the finances of Sehgal brothers were so mismanaged that they defaulted in paying rent to DLF Emporio. What could have been more embarassing for a luxury brand that the store’s electricity supply is cut-off?
Since Versace terminated its contract with Sehgal Brothers, speculations were on that they will sign-up with Genesis Luxury or come in as a 100% subsidiary. But now through reliable sources we have discovered that Versace has finally inked the deal with Infinite Luxury.
Infinite Luxury owned by Sahiba Narang, Manav Gangwani and Rahul Kapoor is rapidly acquiring brands and growing to be a strong player in the luxury retail business. The group kicked off with introducing Roberto Cavalli and Cavalli Caffe into India. This was followed with tie-up with Italian knitwear giants – Missoni and and the brand known for its eclectic prints – Emilio Pucci. Add to that Versace and that makes Infinite Luxury holding licenses of five uber-luxe brands for India.
Yoga, which took birth in India some 5000 years ago has been adopted in the west with a vengeance. We saw the evolution of Bikram Yoga in the 70s in the US where Bikram make his pupils sweat it out in 105 degrees fahrenheit in skimpy briefs and G-strings. Then came Power Yoga that is essentially yoga with brawn. It’s the American interpretation of ashtanga yoga. And now we Naked Yoga where you go au naturale.
The idea of stripping while working out may be uncomfortable for many, but a a number of men in Edmonton are embracing it by signing up for naked yoga class. Chris McBain, the naked yoga instructor at Shanti yoga studios, offers a men’s-only class which is the only one offered in downtown Edmonton. He says people are going back to their natural state and embracing nudity quite comfortably. McBain believes that naked yoga is here to stay and it will grow bigger as people are very keen on the concept.
It’s been nearly three months since Kate Middleton’s pregnancy was announced, but the Duchess refuses to show more than a couple of pounds of baby bump. Kate and Prince William are in Mustique with the Middleton family, where they’re enjoying sun and sand before returning to London—and to their royal duties. She and Wills went all out, renting a private villa next to Kate’s family.
We have to point out that Kate’s baby bump is what the rest of humanity call a ‘food baby’, which is a tiny bump one gets after feasting during the holidays. Kate will not be one of the famous moms who gains 90lbs while pregnant—she is probably still a size 2 or 4! After her scary hospital trip, Kate is healthy and good spirits, and reportedly joked about how the pregnancy is making her butt bigger, but . . . she feels sexy!
The two – Kate and Will played on the beach in matching royal blue colored swim wear. One witness in Mustique said, “They’re inseparable! William joined Kate for an early morning swim; they were touching and kissing in the waves. When they came out of the water, he got down on his knees in front of Kate and kissed her baby bump.” It sounds like they’re really a normal couple!
Christian Wijnants from Europe is the winner of the International Woolmark Prize, it was announced at an event here during London Fashion Week. Wijnants receives $105,000, and his winning collection will be carried next fall in top retailers around the world, including Bergdorf Goodman in the U.S., Harvey Nichols in the U.K., 10 Corso Como in Italy, Joyce in China, Eickoff in Germany and David Jones in Australia.
The International Woolmark Prize was keenly followed by fashion lovers in India as designer-duo – Pankaj & Nidhi were in the illustrious list of 5 finalists. The global fashion competition recognizes creativity in merino wool. It aims to develop the next generation of fashion talent and to highlight wool’s eco credentials. The other finalists were Sophie Theallet from the U.S., Ban Xiao Xiu from China, Dion Lee from Australia, DressedUndressed from Japan, and Pankaj and Nidhi from India. We are proud of you Pankaj & Nidhi! Being in the Top-5 is no mean feat. We are also proud of Rajesh Pratap Singh being appointed the Brand Ambassador for The Woolmark in India
The 2014 prize will take place in Milan, while the following one will be in Paris. The award is supported internationally by the key fashion councils, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America, British Fashion Council, Chambre Syndicale de la Couture, Fashion Design Council of India and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.
Prada released four sketches from Miuccia Prada’s collection of over 40 dresses for Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. True to Luhrmann and Prada form, the dresses aren’t an obvious rehash of twenties style, but rather an idiosyncratic take on the period. Dreamt up in collaboration with Luhrmann’s wife, Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, the dresses take their cue from pieces from the Prada and Miu Miu archives: AW11’s vaguely sixties fur-collared fish scale dress makes an appearance in a new twenties guise, and SS11’s graphic, vibrant stripes have been re-imagined in sequins and plastic trimmings.
“I usually try not to literally reference periods in my work, because that’s not the way I think,” Prada stated in an interview. “But when I worked on the costumes, I realized how many pieces could become very 1920s with a little intervention and another point of view.” It will be the third time the designer has worked with Baz Luhrmann having previously collaborated on his 1996 adaptation of Romeo & Juliet , for which she designed the suit Leonardo DiCaprio’s Romeo wore during the wedding ceremony, and also for the series of short films that were featured in the Met’s ‘Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations’ exhibition.
The Great Gatsby slated for May release is anxiously awaited in India as it also stars the legend – Amitabh Bachchan. No he won’t be wearing Prada as she designed only for the women in the movie.Bachchan will play the role of Meyer Wolfsheim and looks rather cool in his upturned moustache.
Hear you can have a look at the Trailer of The Great Gatsby and yes, Amitabh Bachchan features in the 2-minute trailer unlike Anil Kapoor who was missing in the Mission Impossible trailers: http://youtu.be/h7AFnJbETLw
Well this year I am pleasantly amazed by the enthusiasm with, which Mommies and Auntie jis are celebrating Valentine’s Day. V-Day celebrations took off yesterday with lunches and cocktail soiree galore and believe you me, the Mommies and Aunties have left the teeny-boppers miles behind in celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Today designer Reynu Taandon is hosting a fashion show followed with a “Valentine’s Lunch” in association with Savera Association at the Punj House. Delhi’s hot Mommies (MILFs) and Aunties are all gonna be there. But guess who’s the occasion’s ‘star-attraction’? Well she is Tanisha Mohan, the Show Stopper! I loved the way the invitation highlighted Reynu’s stylista show stopper. Check it out for yourself:

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 had its fair share of controversies but the biggest one was that of an Afghani-American woman-Zohal Hamid accusing Royal Challenger player Luke Pomersbach of molesting her in front of her fiance – Sahil Peerzada at the Maurya Sheraton hotel. Siddharth Mallya mocked the lady’s claim on Tweeter. Eventually Zohal dropped the case.
I had posted on 29th May 2012 about Zohal Hamid, her relationship with Sahil Peerzada and hinted at ‘all that happens at the IPL after-parties’. You can read the post here to refresh your memories - ZOHAL HAMID Digs Gold Rather Than Design Gold Jewelery: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-X2
Last year too I posted that the whole story that Zohal Hamid blurted out to Delhi Police and the Media was ‘bull-crap’. In no uncertain terms I had written that Luke Pomersbach followed Zohal and Sahil into their room (which was surprisingly booked under Deccan Challengers) to ‘Powder their Nose’. What followed after – the brawl – was something that is called ‘coke rage’. Now I can substantiate my claims with these photographs that narrate the real story!
PARSONS To Open A Campus In MUMBAI: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-1bL
The Associate Campus of world’s number one Fashion School – Parsons is called the Indian School of Design & Innovation (ISDI), Parsons Mumbai. The school is a joint-venture with an Indian partner – Radha Kapoor who is also a Parsons graduate. Radha Kapoor is the the daughter of Rana Kapoor, the Chairman of Yes Bank and her first entrepreneurial venture was to get the global dry-cleaners, Pressto to India.
ISDI, Parsons Mumbai is currently on a recruitment drive for faculty and administrators.
Earlier I posted about cricketer turned politician – Mohammad Azharuddin’s new lady love, Shanon Marie.
Here are some EXCLUSIVE pictures of the love-birds romancing in Paris and London. Thought it would make a nice read that would get you into romantic mood before Valentine’s Day !
Cricketer turned politician Mohammad Azharuddin’s separation from Sangeeta Bijlani is years old. Sangeeta spends most of her time in Mumbai while Azhar shuffles between Delhi and Hyderabad. Badminton player Jwala Gutta may had caused the rift between Sangeeta and Azhar but she is now nowhere in the scene.
Shanon Marie, not a new face in Delhi circuit is reportedly Azharuddin’s current love interest. Reliable sources say that Azhar and Shanon are a live-in couple but both are yet to make a public appearance as one.
Anyway good going for both!
John Galliano appeared victorious in an early round of litigation against his former employer, Christian Dior. In the hearing, it was revealed that the designer made $7.7 million annually as Creative Director of Christian Dior Couture and his own label.
John Galliano, the disgraced designer who was fired from Christian Dior after anti-semetic rants in a Paris bar, is finally firing back. Yesterday (Monday), he won the first round in a case against Dior in French Labor Relations Court, according to his lawyer, Chantal Giraud-van Gaver of Coblence & Associés. The court ruled that it was fit to hear the designer’s claims against his dismissal from Dior in March 2011. The lawyer for Christian Dior Couture, argued that the case should be heard by a commercial court because of the elaborate contracts held between the house at the designer. That lawyer, Jean Néret of Jeantet Associés, argued that Galliano should be viewed as an independent contractor of the company, rather than as an employee.
Dior reportedly has 15 days to contest the ruling. If it opposes, the case will go to the court of appeals in seven to nine months.
By the way during the trial, the details of Galliano’s salary was revealed. He earned a fixed gross annual salary of 1 million euros (around $1.3 million) at Christian Dior Couture, as well as $906,400 in “variable compensation,” a wardrobe budget of 30,000 euros (about $38,850), and a grooming budget of $77,700 for personal appearances. And that was just Dior: Galliano also operated his own namesake brand, where he apparently earned a fixed gross salary of 2 million euros (roughly $2.6 million) and a separate clothing budget of 70,000 euros (or $90,650). In addition, Galliano got paid separately as a consultant for Christian Dior Couture and Parfums Christian Dior on creative matters like ad campaigns, runway shows, and Websites.
The Italian luxe label – Prada had been ignoring the emerging economies while other brands in its league moved in much earlier. Prada’s absence in India is rather conspicuous but anyway – better late than never. Sellers of luxury products are seeking to move out of developed markets that have been hit by global economic uncertainty and find new buyers in emerging economies and Prada is amongst them.
But then coming late has its bag of problems. As per sources what is majorly bothering Prada is the availability of retail space. DLF Emporio in Delhi has 100% occupancy and there is absolutely no scope of prime location on the ground floor where Prada would ideally like to be. Even Palladium has no availability of prime store space in the mall.
Though the Government of India has allowed 100% Foreign Direct Investment in single-brand retail, the luxury labels are still preferring to go with an Indian partner. No names are officially disclosed as in who all are in talks with Prada but the signals are very much hinting at Genesis Luxury and Reliance Brands. Both are in talks with Prada.
Prada has a lot of promise in India as it is a label that is well known and they brand offers a whole range of menswear, womenswear, bags and accessories. It also has a sister brand for womenswear – Miu-Miu. But let’s wait and watch if and when Prada make its Indian entry.
Well Indian Fashion Magazines are not part of this debate wether the fine line between pornography and fashion are blurring. Desi Rag-Mags are towing the safe line. But same isn’t about the international fashion magazines.
The January 2013 issue of ‘Love’ magazine that is published out of United Kingdom features Kate Moss on their cover and inside in their fashion spread. Moss goes absolutely nude for the fashion spread shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Kate drops top and bottom for a full body visual exhibition that you will not find similarly among any of her veteran model peers. It’s bold, it’s downright completely and utterly bare.
Well this vital piece of information was shared with me by my reader – Shauna. This is what was shared, “How come the congress party’s new Vice-president rahul gandhi was at the Aman health club on 26th January instead of being at the parade??!! Surely that was more important then building up his muscles at 10.30 am…”
Well Shauna I couldn’t agree more with you. If Rahul Gandhi is aiming to be the next Prime Minister of India, he got to have his priorities right. Rahul’s absence from the 64th Republic Day Parade was rather conspicuous and that too when the special guest this year was the young King of Bhutan. The two could have made a good photo-op. And now that you revealed that Gandhi scion was at the Health Club at The Aman Hotel, it clearly shows what our man’s priorities are.
Frankly did not expect this from Rahul Gandhi.
It is a proud day for the Indian Fashion Fraternity as veteran designer Ritu Kumar will be the first fashion designer to be bestowed with the prestigious ‘Padma Shri’ Award by the President of India today. On the 64th Republic Day Ritu Kumar will be conferred the Padma Shri; a recognition not only for Ritu but probably for the Indian Fashion Fraternity.
On the honor bestowed on her, Ritu Kumar said, “I am deeply appreciative by the fact that the government has recognized my efforts in the field of fashion, textile and craftsmanship. India remains very few countries which has an indegeneous and a very strong fashion handwriting not dictated by Paris or New York but is evolving with the designers of the country. I am grateful for the support I have received from the crafts people of this country.”
Congratulations Ritu Kumar!!!
Fashion and Politics gel well. Since French president Francois Hollande is expected to propose a same-sex marriage bill this Friday, Karl Lagerfeld thought it to be apt to show his support for gay marriage. Karl Lagerfeld sent not one – but two — brides down the runway for the finale of his spring 2013 Chanel Haute Couture in Paris early Tuesday. The two models, in identical feathered wedding dresses and headpieces, walked hand-in-hand down the runway.
As always Chanel’s haute couture runway played stage to some of the most theatrical make up we’ve seen so far; taking two of next season’s major beauty trends – the smoky eye and messy up-style – and giving them both a very gothic twist in the tale.
The Chanel spring-summer 2013 haute couture collection consisted of ensembles focussing on the shoulder with lots of off-shoulder dresses, delicate black Chantilly lace layered over a cream bouclé suit, worn with thigh high skinny leather boots and peep-toes, the beaded, embroidered and sequined flowers blossoming across long column dresses and cinched with spaghetti-thin red belts, 60s inspired tube dresses and empire line gowns.
Self-proclaimed Godman - Aasaram Bapu has been accused of rape by a minor (15-year-old) girl. The victim reported that she was being raped by Aasaram Bapu while her parents were sitting in the other room. Disgusting!
Aasaram Bapu, the self-styled Godman sermonised the nation on how the gangrape victim – Nirbhaya would had avoided it all if she would had taken diksha, recited mantras and begged in front of those six beasts who were raping. Aasaram’s sermons made our blood boil in disgust.
But now after seeing this photograph of Aasaram Bapu imparting ‘Diksha’ to a disciple in his unique style, I understand where he is coming from and what kind of sermons he is capable of uttering.
Media is abuzz with news of John Galliano’s return to fashion. Womenswear Daily (WWD) reported that Oscar de la Renta has invited the disgraced designer to “spend some time with him in his studio over the next three weeks to the run-up of to the New York Fashion Week.” It is believed that Anna Wintour had a hand in brokering this highly unorthodox “in residence” agreement. However Oscar made it clear this was in no way a succession plan. “Am I retiring? Is John going to replace me?” de la Renta posed, unsolicited. “Certainly not. I hope to be around for a long time.”
However what grabbed my eyes was the attire Galliano posed in. He has draped a cotton sari with ornate border over his boxers and paired it with a shirt and a jacket. Not clear what he has done with the palla. Seems like he has wrapped it around the sling of his satchel bag. And yes, don’t miss out on the anklet on his right foot!
The thoughts are anywhere between weird to funny. One guy describes it as sandwich, while another compares the vagina with Tacos. Yet another draws parallel of the vagina with a old persons mouth. But all of them agree that if there was no vagina, there wouldn’t have a been a gay-boy!

Is it the era of ‘Paid Editorials’? Well Times of India started the ‘Paid Editorial’ concept way back in 2005. The group stuck to it against heavy criticism. Even The Hindustan Times was highly critical of TOI’s Media Net move. But now the other giant publication of Delhi – The Hindustan Times – too has taken to ‘Paid Editorials’.
The city supplement of Hindustan Times – HT City has already implemented the ‘paid editorial’ concept. You will notice brands, restaurant, lounges and labels conspicuously missing from the copy. Now brands will be mentioned only if they are paid for.
Sure the PR fraternity is unhappy with the new norm at HT.
Times of India started mentioning their City Supplements as ‘Advertorial, Entertainment Promotional Feature’, which is printed just below the masthead. Wonder how HT City will bifurcate ‘paid editorial’ from ‘pure editorial’. Got to wait and watch!
It seems no awards night is complete without the requisite wardrobe malfunctions these days and 2013 Golden Globes were no exception with the likes of Nicole Kidman and Julianne Hough going through the embarrassing moments and the likes of Miranda Kerr, Jennifer Garner, Eva Longoria all coming within a hair’s breadth of disaster.
Nicole Kidman was nominated for two Golden Globes this year, as Best Supporting Actress in The Paperboy and Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her role in Hemingway & Gellhorn. Nicole had a humiliating moment on the red carpet on her way into the ceremony. As the 45-year-old stepped out of her limo and onto the red carpet, she must have somehow got her skirt caught in her pale blue granny panty. Initially unaware of the major fashion mishap, Kidman happily posed for the cameras until an aide noticed the problem and pulled her aside.
Julianne Hough, Dancing With The Stars (US) dancer, sibling to Derek Hough and girlfriend of mini TV mogul Ryan Seacrest, possibly showed off her moves with a little too much gusto, splitting open the front of her gown. She tweeted image of the mishap saying, ‘Ummm I think I may have danced too hard…. Eeek!’ She also wanted her fans to know she wasn’t fazed by destroying an expensive awards show frock saying later, ‘Ummm again… I love to dance regardless of how expensive a dress may be… You can’t hold me down .’
Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria came unstuck in a black Pucci dress with a daringly risqué thigh-high split. The dress reportedly got caught up and came open to expose considerably more than the actress had intended. Longoria was left using her hand to protect her modesty, but like a true pro her smile for the cameras never slipped for a single moment.
Taylor Swift, the singer, who recently split from One Direction star Harry Styles, made a solo arrival at the Golden Globe awards in a daring backless Donna Karen Atelier gown. And while the fitted plum number showed off Taylor’s slim figure, it also revealed a bit too much with the cutaway sides giving a glimpse of her stick-on bra underneath.
Jennifer Garner, actress and wife of the night’s big winner Ben Affleck, wore a stunning red Vivienne Westwood gown that developed a mind of its own. The dress began to head south as the evening progressed and the star narrowly avoided exposing her boobs for the world’s approval.
2013 Golden Globe Awards saw the trending of thigh-high slitted gowns. Miranda Kerr too wore one of the night’s fad – a red thigh-high slit gown. But hey, the slit was so high that there were moments of accidental knicker-flash.
India being probably having one of the youngest fashion industry has almost fifty plus ‘fashion weeks’ while France having the world’s oldest and the biggest fashion industry has probably just three ‘fashion weeks’ – Haute Couture, Women’s Ready-to-Wear and Menswear. Add to that couple of trade shows like the Pret-a-Porter and Tranoi.
Here in India, fashion has become a ‘Tamasha’ and from Punjab to Patna, Kolkata to Kochi, Lucknow to Ludhiana there are fashion weeks probably associated to every ‘A’ and ‘B’ cities in India. But I was absolutely blown-off my wits when I heard about the upcoming ‘Prasad Bidapa Fashion Week’ in Bengaluru. It’s the height – an individual driven fashion week. Okay Prasad may be a self-proclaimed style-guru, talent-hunter (What kinda talent I ain’t sure.), fashion wrier, fashion photographer and a choreographer. But isn’t having a ‘fashion week’ titled on your name a bit megalomanic?
Even the likes of Anna Wintour or Carine Rotfield or Mounir Moufarrige or Pierre Berge wouldn’t have the audacity to host a ‘fashion week’ titled on their name. And mind you, these names have made major contribution to world fashion.
God save the Desi ‘Fashion Week’ Tamasha!
Officials in Venezuela have reportedly found a floating corpse that has been linked to the missing airplane carrying fashion heir Vittorio Missoni, his companion and two other Italians, although officials later said that the body is of a long-missing fisherman in “advanced stages of decomposition.”
Missoni and his travel companions and their two-man crew left the island of Los Roques on January 4 and their plane disappeared from radar about 11 miles off the coast of the island.
On Sunday, a mysterious SMS message coming from the cell phone of one of the plane’s passengers gave the Missoni family new hope that their beloved company director had been kidnapped, and had not perished in an air-sea accident. If the corpse turns out to be one of the members of the Missoni party or their crew, it will put to rest the Missoni family’s kidnapping theory.
Nearly 400 search and rescue divers and pilots have been scouring the area since the Missoni plane disappeared nearly one week ago. On Wednesday, the Italian foreign ministry dispatched its own team of divers to aid in the search.
The Missoni family has not yet made a statement on the reports of the discovered body.
Missoni has been the latest fashion brand to make foray into India. The iconic label made famous for its zig-zag pattern knitwear has entered into a franchise agreement with Infinity Luxury Group of India.
All eyes were on Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2013 collection. Reasons were obvious as everyone wanted to see how the new appointee – Alexander Wang fared after the departure of the maverick Nicholas Ghesquière. Well it seems that Alexander Wang and the studio team played it safe buy revisiting the archives of the label’s creator – Cristobal Balenciaga. WWD reported, “The name invoked during a preview of the collection, designed by the studio team, was the one on the door: Cristobal Balenciaga.”
In fact the Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2013 collection had nothing from the predecessor – Ghesquière. The house public relation director noted that the highly developed technical fabrics of Ghesquière’s tenure were left behind in favor of natural materials, such as wool, shearling, leather, cotton and silk, with a lot of what he called “noble” and “poor” fabrics — chiffon and the kind of sturdy wool typical of naval peacoats — which Cristobal was known to combine in his couture collections.
The collection stuck to signature Cristobal Balenciaga’s master craftmanship, saturated floral prints and bohemia and had structured trenches, nice ‘n’ fun pants, and vintage prints. The collection’s salable merchandise had hints of the Sixties, Seventies and Nineties, with the standouts coming mostly from outerwear, such as a powder blue shearling jacket and a slimly tailored salmon coat.

Armani is enjoying the fruits of India’s booming real estate business. Last year Armani bagged their first project in Mumbai, The World Towers, developed by the Lodha Group, which is currently under construction. Now Giorgio Armani SpA has signed a new collaboration with Indian real estate company Supertech for the development of a 100 unit ARMANI TOWER in Mumbai.
Spread over 4,00,000 sq ft, the Armani Tower in Supertech’s luxury project Supernova, will comprise 100 luxury residential units. The interiors and furniture will all be done by Armani. Supertech is paying Armani a one-time fee for exclusive rights. The ’exclusive rights’ deal prohibits Armani from tying up with any other north Indian developer for a similar concept.
Well less said about Mozez Singh, the better it is. I have known Reshma Shetty professionally. She is a no non-nonsense lady who wouldn’t have fueled a rumour if it didn’t happen. On the other hand Mozez Singh, a one-time producer of a dud movie and a social butterfly has a track record of misbehaving at parties.
In the past Mozez Singh did something similar at Shahrukh Khan’s party and was thrown out from there. And just last month in Delhi at Niamat and Sanjit Bakshi’s anniversary party, Mozez reportedly misbehaved with dozen of guests. Since it was his sister and brother-in-law’s (Niamat and Sanjit) party he wasn’t thrown out but Mozez definitely was the night’s irritant that bothered many guests.
So I have no doubt in believing that Mozez was behaving like an ‘ass’ at Anu and Sunny Dewan’s Christmas bash. I am sure he will be taken off the party guest lists soon and Mumbai definitely won’t miss a thing by his absence. Mozez’s behaviour is not fueled by alcohol but because of some other ‘shit’ and that’s when his frustration pours out.
Though most of Delhi, rather the whole country stayed away from celebrating the dawn of the year 2013 due to the widespread gloomy feel post the brutal gang-rape case, porn star turned Bollywood actor Sunny Leone drew full house at The Lalit in New Delhi. There are no shortage of ‘thadkis’ and over 2000 plus people thronged to see Sunny Leone dance.
