But then what is bash without a brawl??? First we had designer Nida Mahmood who had a major fracas with the FDCI team as they were obstinate in not letting in her multiple friends and colleagues. The ‘high-spirited’ Nida fretted and fumed at this. Though all her guests were eventually accomodated we found Nida Mahmood still sulking.
At the fag end of the bash we saw another ugly brawl between Bikram Oberoi and Manish Talwar. Guess what this brawl was all about? Well the duo fought over a girl!
High time you guys grow up man!!!
Hope you guys won’t mind if I blow my own trumpet for a change. Some might find it pompous but let me take this liberty for once. After fashionscandal.com posted the story on “Should Designers Comprise The Jury That Selects Designers?’” (You can read it here: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-16e) a fierce debate took off that led many designers to voice their opinion against the process. Subsequently HT City too did a piece on the same topic and resultant FDCI and the Board did a rethinking.
As per my sources the FDCI and its Board is revisiting the selection process from the start and hopefully in couple of days the final list will be out.
I know that I (‘An Industry Outsider.’) pissed off a lot of Board members but then my argument wasn’t if X,Y, Z designers qualify to be on the Jury. My basic tenet was a that a Jury shouldn’t comprise of designers that selects designers. This rule applies to every other field – be it journalism, art or shall I say the Selection Committee for Allocation of Coal Blocks.
Designer Ranna Gill who is showing at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 after a hiatus of couple of season has grabbed the Sponsored slot – the Fiama Di Wills Show. Ritu Kumar is the Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale designer. As per FDCI, both the selections have been made by Wills Lifestyle independently. Ranna had done Fiama show earlier too but it was a two-designer show with Rina Dhaka.
The 31st August 2012 Edition of HT CITY carried the story – “It’s Unfair” on Jury for selection of Designers for WIFW S/S 2013. Obviously you read it here first – Should Designers Comprise The Jury That Selects Designers? Here is the link: http://wp.me/p1C8a1-16e
