London based designer of Indian origin – Ashish Gupta showcased a provocative and sexed-up collection at the London Fashion Week. Gupta said, “I think women should have a right to dress the way they want and feel sultry and empowered – you could call these pieces a celebration of femininity and freedom. I’m pro ‘Free The Nipple’ – get your tits out if you want to!” The collection was inspired by the cult movie – Klute, that had Jane Fonda playing the lead role of a streetwalker, Bree Daniels.
“I think the only way that any of us can ever be happy is to let it all hang out…do it all, and fuck it,” Bree’s sensual voice played on the background as models walked down in sequin loaded ensembles depicting girls who are rough around the edges but titillating and fragile on the inside, just like Bree Daniels.
Ashish had plenty to offer – Sepia-toned plaid shirt-dresses, bomber jackets and laced-trimmed pants were all doused with his signature sequin touch. Over-sized thrift store camouflage parkas, lace-trimmed camisole dresses, low-slung culottes with contrasting faux-fur hems paired with lipstick red latex boots added to the sexed-up streetwalker look. Elevated stonewashed denim also featured in the mix, cut into shift dresses, shrunken jackets and lace-up jeans that were punctuated with silver studs and rivets.
