Do B’Wood Stars Pay-For Their Wedding-Wear?

This year is overloaded with celebrity weddings. It started with cricketer Virat Kohli and actor Anushka Sharma’s Tuscany wedding, followed with Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta’s engagement in Goa and now ongoing is Anand Ahuja and Sonam Kapoor’s wedding in Mumbai. And yes, Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal got engaged too and will tie-the-knot in December.

The tabloids scout around for information about who is the star’s lehenga designer…who is making the cocktail dresses…basically who is the chosen one!. But do we know if the stars ever pay for the over-the-top lehenga-Choli? The star will obviously say -‘Yes’ and so will the designer and in these times of Non-Disclosure Agreements being part of every starry weddings’ process, truth doesn’t come out.

Anuska Sharma wore Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Assume it was paid for as Virat and Anuska can easily afford it. But who knows. Before the wedding, the star/ celebrity’s stylist goes scouting for best offer from shortlisted designers. I was prive to this Whatsaap message exchanged between the sister of this actor famous for being a fashionista. One ensemble which, was for Rupees 3.80 Lakhs was offered by the designer for half-the price. The sylist cum sister stated that the designer will get zillion eyeballs and the ensemble will sell like hot-cakes once her star sister wears it but this designer said ‘NO’ to giving it for free. She also dropped names of designers who are willing to give outfits for free. Shocking! Hence Bollywood’s designer duo (B-Town’s inadvertently designers de jure), Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are dressing up the couple and family and friends.

Shocking because these fimstars make enough money and their families are wealthy too. Still they want freebies. I can’t just blame the stars. Designers who go for these barter deals are to be blamed too. So, which star is wearing which designer is often decided by eyeballs, Instagram influencers and factors that are unrelated to aesthetics and design.

Got to mention this though….Nita Ambani has been walking into designers stores and paying M.R.P and buying stuff for her to-be bahu. They got the moolah!

hey jack- is it true that sridevi had an insurance policy worth 200 crore ???

  2. jack says:

100 crores but then most stars have insurance of 100 crore plus

  3. Some say, it was for Rs. 240 crores with a caveat that the ‘insured’ has to die in UAE to make a claim on the insurance amount. No idea, whether this info is right or wrong – shared on some media platform/whatsapp group.

wow so stingy . I am guessing the designer who refused to give the outfit for free would be sabyasachi. They had the mehendi at their own house, wedding at sonams aunts house and reception at friends 5 star hotel. So they probably did not spend moolah on the venues too. Well in a way its a good thing, people waste wayy too much money on weddings.

  5. jack says:

No, the designer who refused wasn’t Sabya…

I thought Sonam would have chosen Anamika Khanna for sure. She must be the one who said no.
